TR: Dreamworld, Australia
The past two weeks I have had the privilege to tour the wonderful country of Australia with the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony. We played many great concerts but I'm sure that you only care about the Theme Park. Dreamworld is located between the Gold Coast and Brisbane on Australia east coast. The park is hidden in the tress and the only things visible from the road are Dreamworld Tower and Thunderbolt. Admission was about $US25 and the whole front gate area was obviously a rip-off of any of the Disney parks.
The first themed area that I arrived at was Central Plaza. This area was mainly shops and also an Imax theater could be found here. The Imax movie was Thrill Ride so I decided to skip it. The rest of the day was kind of a blur so I will give a area by area report moving counter-clockwise.
The next land is County Fair home to two major attractions. The first is Wipeout a Vekoma version of a Huss Top Spin. I like the Vekoma version much better personally. The ride is situated over a small pond that adds to the excitement. The other attraction is the Thunderbolt. This is a weird steel double looping steel coaster that I think was built by the Japanese company Meisho. The line for this ride did not look very long but took forever because of bad operating procedures. There was only one train running and only one person operating the ride. The one operator was actually doing a fairly good job but she could only move so fast making for a long line. The sign outside the ride reads "Some riders may find this ride rough". That was a very true statement. I have never been on a ride that was rough going through straight-aways but anyway it was still a fun little coaster.
Moving on I reached Village Oval and the reason that I came to the park, Tower of Terror. ToT and S:TE are the only two Intamin Reverse Free fall Coasters in the world. This 378 foot tall tower is huge and can be seen from any where in the park. JeremyG - The outside of the Avalance/Himalaya ride looks similar to the Matterhorn Bobslead coaster at Disneyland. Is Avalanche a coaster inside of building or is it just one of those spin and barf rides.
Avalanche is a flat ride located in the mountain.
