TR: Coasting the midwest pt. 1 Timbersfest :)

Associated parks:
None

Me and my brother set out for Mich Adventures about 6pm on friday and arrived about 1am in Muskegon and set up camp at the campground right off the russel rd exit about 1 mile from the park. We told the people at the office that we camped last night and want the site again tonight and they only charged us for one night anyway so that was cool. :)

We arrived at the park about 11:30am. I had visited MA last year and enjoyed it but found the park kinda dull. Rob had not yet been here so I decided to add Timbersfest to the vacation as it is not too far out of the way of the other parks on our list.

First ride was Zachs Zoomer and Rob and I both agree that it is faster and funner than Beastie at PKI. We rode this several more times on our visit.

Second ride was Corkscrew, Rob had not ridden a simple corkscrew since 1980 on his last visit to BGT. Anyhow the paint job was a nice change from the straight white it used to be.

Third Ride was Wolverine Wildcat, I like this coaster but it really has no wow to it. It dose do the Dinn Shuffle alot but it is still fun, We rode this several more times throughout the day.

TIMBERS Daytime! I had ridden timbers last year and although I liked it, I did not find it to be a #1 coaster that many had. I remember getting some good airtime on the way out, A strong latteral turn and a boring return with a lame helix with one good trick track in the mix.

Well Rob had never ridden before, The lines were only 1-2 train waits so we jump on Timbers for our first ride of the day. OK, It was a little better than I remember but Rob summed it up just as I had Last year. Good coaster but not great. ALthough we were getting air on the return trip. We rode timbers a few more times during the day and except for a rain ride about 6pm it was ok but not fantastic, More on Timbers later.

As I said the park was not busy. It turned out to be a great day despite the cold start to it and we ended up riding everything as much as we wanted. Lunch was pretty good with bbq chicken, hot dogs and burgers. We didn't find the veggy bar though until we were done eating :( .

I never did find out how many attended but I was guessing about 200+ at the lunchon. I got to meet many URCers, RRCers and Buzzers that were there and everyone was nice and fiendly so it turned into a great time!

OK, TIMBERSFEST 8pm till ?

ERT started about 8:15 after the park emptied out and timbers was about a 5 train wait for about the first hour, Shoot ERT was all day :) The line was never long with the two trains so we ended the night with about 40+ timbers rides.

OK, Call me nuts but wood coasters do get faster as it cools off and timbers was no exception to this rule. Ert started off with timbers giving good rides with airtime on every hill which would only get better and better. When the sun went down about 10pm this thing got insane! AIRTIME??????? Who needs a STANDUP COASTER? Timbers will do it for ya! I got to say I was completly vertical more than I was on the seat. THIS COASTER IS INSANE! There are periods of airtime that seem to last forever and at night this airtime becomes ejector. Seat 1-2 would stand you up so hard and so long that the phrase I saw GOD on ST that seemed corny to me before became reality! The helix that at times seems lackluster was insane and the whole coaster was just plain insane.

Ok, Im babbling. I would rank this coaster up there with the best and if you ever get a chance to ride Timbers at night, DO SO! ERT ended about 11:15 and it was mainly due to lack of riders because everyone was physically spent and not the park willingness to go later. They said as long as the trains were full we would ride but about that time we were getting a bunch of empty seats so It was ok with me. Shivering Timbers made believers of me and Rob :)

Notes of the day, Both Adult woodies had a severe differential in seatbelt length depending on the seats. Some average sized people could not ride in some seats. Im sure the park will get that straightened out. However our seats of choice had long belts and that was great for us. Seat 1-2 and the very back seat were the best seats IMHO. 1-2 provided great airtime all the way up and over each hill while the backseat provided great pull over airtime. Seat of choice is 1-2 because you really don't need a seat for that one except the lifthill! :) A friend of ours, Chris told us just before our final ride about a trick I had not previously known about, On the return trip, Look Straight Up! COOL! Sturcture, AIR, Structure :)

All in all the improvements to the park from last year were great and it will only get better. Be Bop Blvd was excellent despite having probs all day. The Arrow Mouse is great and the park is starting to look good.

All in all I give Timbersfest a 10 out of a possible 10. We had a great time and if it had not been for our busy schedual of trips we would have been happy to spend sunday there as well as it was included.

They actually said there was a noise ordinance that mandated a 11:00 PM shut down. Too bad - I could've gone another hour.

I was right in front of you guys in the front seat of blue somewhere around 10:30 (I was wearing a black MF sweat shirt). I do believe this was the best ride on ST I've had to date.

Without the chaindog, you'd never get up the lifthill...

I'm glad you enjoyed it so much, Charles! Man, that sure was a blast :). Thanks for introducing yourself to me, always a pleasure to meet fellow buzzers!

Noise ordinance? What else is there? Seemed the closest house was half mile down the street. :)

Chuck, who says you can here many ride instructions recordings in Kings Mills just north of PKI.
