Toy Story Mania is high stakes start of rehab for Disney's California Adventure

Disney is embarking on a $1.1 billion, five-year effort to get California Adventure on track. The blueprints call for ripping out ho-hum rides and adding elaborate new ones, rebuilding the park’s entrance — a hodgepodge of turnstiles, a miniature Golden Gate Bridge and pastel tile murals — to shift the focus to Disney iconography. In June, Disney will unveil a glimpse of the shoot-for-the-moon bet it is making on California Adventure’s makeover, with the introduction of a ride called Toy Story Mania. More than three years in the making, and estimated to cost about $80 million, the attraction essentially puts guests inside a video game.

$80 million for a dark ride?

I sure hope that they do not put all of there eggs in one basket with toy story mania. Granted I have not been on the attraction yet, but could a shooter dark ride be enough?

$80 mil is a drop in the bucket compared to the 1.3 - 1.4 billion overall in the next 5 years.

Rumor the Cars ride is over $200m!

Wow. They really aren't messing around this time. Isn't that comparable to the original amount of money they spent on DCA?
Thats one expensive video game...
Toy Story Mania is much more advanced than what many thought it would be when it was first announced. They're taking the interactive dark ride to the next level with this.
WildStangAlex: They are spending more than the original cost to build. Subtract the Grand Californian and Downtown Disney and the original park only cost $700m.
