Tower of Terror in Aus.

I was looking @ the stats of Tower of Terror @ Dreamland(?) in Oz land and though I was aware that there was an intamin drop tower on the other side of the track, it got me wondering, how tall is the drop tower part, and is it the tallest drop tower in the world?

How fast would that thing go?:)

auscoasterman, I'm sure you could tell me:)

thanks in advance!

Pretty sure it's the tallest drop ride in the world.

Tower of Terror is around 370 feet tall. Doesn't the Giant Drop go almost all the way up the tower?

Hi Long time Viewer, First time poster.

THe Tower of Terror at Dreamworld did when it first opened win an award for the Tallest thrill ride in the world or something like that.

I don't know if thay award is still held?

The TOT ride goes around 125 km/h

And Yes the Giant Drop goes all the way up the tower, and is on both sides of the TOT ride.

Hope this Helps.

auscoasterman to the rescue, aye Tekno? ;)

Tower of Terror can operate to a height of 328ft. Any higher and I'm afraid our buddy Mr Newton's not going to be too happy. :) There's about 50ft of excess track up there as well for emergency brakes etc., identical to S:TE (minus its "hill disposition"). It has a top speed of 100mph (161km/hr), but typically operates a click or two below that, nothing drastic, but they claim it preserves the longevity of the components.

Giant Drop on the other hand is smack bang on 390ft, so it is taller than the other ride in terms of operating height, and that's obvious just looking at the thing. It has a top speed of 135km/hr and gives five seconds of freefall. Still tallest non-coaster ride in the world. It of course had the honour of being the tallest of any ride until TTD came alone.

Hehe, you've even managed to inject an australian accent into your post for some reason - I read what you'd written in that tone of voice anyway :)

Thank you very much guys! I still get a little nervous on PCar's 170' DropZone, but still manage to ride every time I'm there....I could only Imagine dropping that far. I knew I was going to have to hit Australia one of these days(top 5 on places I want to visit for non coaster reasons:)), and this just might push it farther up the list:).

Well, how was/is PKI's DZ?

I didn't get to go to Beast Buzz because my transmission went out, so I'm postponing my PKI trip till hopefully next month:(.

Anyone got a picture on this thing from the top. I would really like to see that.

Or how about pictures of it in general!

Thanks!

Gaint Drop looks absolutely TERRIFYING...:)

The Drop Zones are the closest thing we have....PKD's is a smidgen better IMO because the brakes hit so late, but as one of my work clients mentioned after returning from PKD, "it's a shame it doesn't spin as it goes up the tower"...

Pam, I doubt you're reading this, but you rock. Every time her and her hubby go on vacation somewhere, she's certain to call and ask about parks in the area...unfortunately, I don't see either of us going to Australia anytime soon.

For some odd reason, it really didn't seem that tall when I went on it, and Tower of Terror didn't seem that fast. Oh well, I don't know where my mind was wandering that day. Haha.

Its huge!!! Simple as that. Great ride, you just keep going up and up, waiting to get to the top. Builds so much suspense, that when you drop, it comes as a relief to some/most.

Dispatch times are shocking though. 8 seats per side, and they usually only have one side operating. The q can get enormous, and even when it is'nt they wait is quite a while.

I actually found the 210ft Intamin Giant Drop at Wonderland Sydney more scary. I guess it's because it has an inverted dome at the top which the cars stop inside for 5-10secs before dropping. It's rather claustrophic & you can only see the ground below your feet!

Whereas with GD, it takes ages to get to the top which takes a bit away IMO. Maybe bungee launched or space shot? ;) At the top, you're so high up, the park below looks fake, like a painting with peeps smaller than ants.

Yup, the FF is a rush & the sudden stop a real jolt!

Did y'all know that ToT beat S:TE to 100mph?? S:TE had problems preventing it from being the first to do so which were eliminated in ToT.
