Top Thrill Dragster and wind!

At 120 MPH rain may be more critical for TTD than other coasters at CP. A lot depends on what kind of wind deflection they have on the trains.

Since aerodynamic drag is a function of the square of the velocity, wind has a dramatic effect on the drag on a coaster. Traveling head on into a 30 mph wind the aerodynamic drag for TTC would be increase 56%. Traveling at an angle to the wind can be even worse since the effective wind comes at an angle to the train causing more turbulence and increasing the drag coefficient.

I have only visted the park in late June/mid July (ie prime thunderstorm season) and according to employees they said they closed most rides (and all most all coasters) in the rain. When I have been there anytime it rained they shutdown the park. I guess that is not their policy the entire year, sorry

For what it's worth, *lightning* is the real key. Some/most rides can run in various degrees of rain, depending on control systems, braking system, operations policies, and the like. But thunderstorms and lightning are sure to shut down nearly everything, since using guests on a 200' tall coaster as a lightning rod is a sure-fire ticket to some really bad PR...;)

I've seen the lightning in Miami; it's no joke. Is it really worse further north?

Maybe that's why there's no hyper in Orlando.
