Top Gun with Vekoma Trains

I heard on screamscape that there is a possiblity that Top Gun's train was totaled. They then talked about the possiblity of getting the vekoma trains. Does anyone else think that this is possible? I know that this is one of the best suspended coasters out there, or this is what i've heard, and it seems like it doesn't need change. Its still pretty smooth and a fun ride. Also if they were to convert I know that they would also have to trim down the trees because the car now hits them and it wouldn't be good for peoples feet to hit them.

The cars weren't totaled goin only 20 mph. I'll be there tomorrow and check it out for myself. My friend who works there said it isn't bad. It'd be great if they were changed but don't count on it. And if they do it won't be till off season.

Unless they already fixed the other train you won't be able to see it. Its been completly removed from the track. I was there on saturday and waited an hour and a half. They other train was missing and I was looking and even though it says it was only going 20mph. The only place it could really hit it has to be going at least 30mph maybe more.
There is nothing to check out. The damaged train has been removed to a storage area until it can be fixed and Top Gun is running with only one train.

...hmmm, wondering if the screamscape "rumor" came from the aimless wandering thought I put out on URC....unlikely at best, but I thought it would be a cool idea....two completely different trains on one coaster turns me on...;)
Why switch out all that hardware when all they really need to do is go to the glass shop and fabricate a few new tubs? Kings Island could take care of that completely in-house if they want to. Assuming they don't have the molds but they do have at least one undamaged tub, they could have molds made in about a week, then another couple of days for each tub they need to replace. Or call Arrow and have them do it; it would take a little longer because of trucking, but they already have the molds.....

FYI - In case you have not heard, this accident was offically released by the AP.

IMO, I think the trains could be easily repaired and fixed up in the off season. They could probably buy parts from many of the other parks that have scrapped their arrow suspended.

It was less than two years ago that we nominated Screamscape for Coasters' Choice Award Best Site, and it won. What the hell has happened since then? There's nothing but 14-year old wishful crap.

I havce to agree with Beast_Rocks. That train was going a little faster than 20 MPH at the point in which it collided. at that point in the ride it proabably traveling close to 40mph. Also looking at car crash studies cars going 20MPH are totalled when hitting a stationary object and they are built a little better than Rollercoaster trains. I also believe that simply replacing the tubs won't do it. You have to think of the machanical workup of those cars. There has to be some serious damage to the overhead carragies from forward momentum as well as damage to the restraint system. This will not be any easy or cheap or fast fix.

Jeff, true, true. But those Vekoma trains look sweet, and trust me, I am not a ig fan of Vekoma. Too bad it's not going to happen.

Well, I have been reading Screamscape for about 3 years or so, and even though there is a wild rumor in there every now and then, Lance Hart bases his thoughts on "Speculaton" Like as in.... "What if...."

Screamscape has always been like that.

Why is everyone making such a big deal out of the whole Top Gun train crash? Just because 3 or 4 of the cars are destroyed doesnt mean that they have to order new trains from Vekoma. Bmuskie, I have to disagree, the parks disassemble the trains and do a complete rebuild on most of the parks rides, its no different for Top Gun, they probably take those things down to the last bolt, and rebuild them from scratch, no different than what they would have to do for 3 or 4 of the cars, just a matter of getting a few parts.

I've seen Top Guns Trains disesembled. the cars themselfs stay pretty much intact the back is taken off. I do beleve that the cars are molded fiberglass I think.

I can't say anymore than "that is not happening"
