Too Scared to Ride...Again?

I remember I first rode the Scooby Doo (PKD) with my dad, and I loved it. But, when I wanted to ride it by myself, I couldn't muster up the courage to ride it again. About a year later, my dad took me on it again and I loved it.

The same happened with me on Rebel Yell. It was my first big coaster, and my friends took me on it. I loved it the first time, but I couldn't ride it by myself. My sister was gonna take me on it, but she wanted me to sit in the front, so I started to cry. (I WAS SMALL!) Of course, I'll gladly hop on it now.

I also used to never ride a coaster for the first time by myself, but I did with the Hurler, and I loved it too. Now, I'm all good for doing a new ride by myself. Infact, I go often to parks by myself because none of my friends ever wanna go when I want to go.

When I rode The Riverside Cyclone it scared the HELL out of me. That first drop was crazy.

I went on it again last year after the drop was re-done and the same thing happened. I was terrified.

I'll never ride that piece of #*&$ again!

Before I was an Entusiast I was scared of coasters. Then I went on V2 at SFGAm and then I would go On anything. Seriously V2 is the Kinda Coaster where once you ride It you feel like you can do anything Its awesome. I have a Tip for anyone who you go with that is scared of Coasters go on an Impulse with them and then they will do anything. thats what Happend with Me and two of my friends. I did V2 then I did Raging Bull then Shockwave and Batman. Just tell them It dosent go Upside down and you dont really feel any drop, and that all you do is go fast.Try It it might work

Well my aunt said that she was terrified of the Batman Knight Flight. She is now 60 and we didn't want to push her too bad, but we pushed her anyways. She rode it and told us that it wasn't as bad as she expected. I had a girlfriend that thought she was terrified, and once again, wasn't as scared as she thought she was. I don't know anyone that is too scared to ride something again.
This probably isn't fair as it's about my daughter, now 11, who was 9 when I took her on S.T. She worked up the courage to get on as this was her first "big" coaster. Well, by the time we got to the top of the second hill the tears were starting. By the time we hit the turn-around she was in full sob. Once we got off and I calmed her down she confessed that the steep drops were very scary for her. Since then she's been on numerous coasters including Raging Bull, which was her first over 200', but she still says she will never ride S.T. again.

I got one for all of you, about me, maybe you can give me some suggestions, as far as coasters, no problem, I love MF and can't wait to get on TTD, but that coaster in Las Vegas on the top of that building, No Way!! Also, for years I would'nt even think about about rides like Demon Drop or Power Tower, I was a nervous wreck when my kids or husband went on them. Last year, they got me on Power Tower, it was a bet, one guy with us refused to go on any water rides, didn't want to get wet. He bet me, if I went on PT, he'd go on a water ride. I did it, we did the going up and dropping down. I saw nothing, eyes closed the entire time, my husband had to help me get out of the seat, I could not move!!! I will never go on any ride like that again and no one can understand why high hills on coasters don't bother me but other high rides do. I don't understand it myself. Oh and also, no one could ever get me even close to a ferris wheel. And just looking at that coaster and that Big Shot ride on top of that building makes me feel sick.

Any suggestions from anyone? Thanks

Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today. "James Dean"

My mom had not been on a coaster since Gemini's opening season. Apparently she screamed so much she was halfway passed out and unable to even hold on to the bar. My step-dad was holding her upright for most of the ride. Just this past season at CP I talked her into riding Iron Dragon first thing in the morning, hoping to work her up to a larger ride so that I could get an onride photo of the two of us. For the entire ride she had her eyes closed. She screamed so much that the little kids on the ride were staring at her. When we reached the second lift hill, she finally opened her eyes thinking that the ride was over. Quickly realizing that we were indeed climbing another hill, she closed her eyes and started screaming "Not again! Oh God, not again! My purse! My purse!" Of course nothing happened to her purse, this was Iron Dragon after all. I laughed so hard during that ride that I had a splitting headache for a solid hour. To this day, she tells people that I'll never trick her again. She thinks that I lied to her about the ride, not letting her know how "terrifying" it really was. Jeez! Iron Dragon! ;)

I consider myself a coaster lover, i do "work my way up" to the biggy instead of jumping right in. Especially the first trip of the summer. But I refuse to ride Face-Off at PKI or whatever name it goes by at other parks. I have never been so scared in my life. I think it is the going backwards and upside down. It messes with my head (and stomach) bad....I was terrified!
My sister will not ride Vortex at PKI anymore since she is shorter and it always bangs her head against the shoulder restrains (like a blond). I havn't been back to CP for several years, but passes up riding Blue Streak the last time I was up there becuase the time before, the single lap bar flew up on the chain lift. I hear they have individual lap bars now. If that is right, then I will ride it on my trip next month.

I convinced one of my friends last year to ride Raging Bull, cause she was too scared to ride it. She didn't want to ride it again because she said it was horrible and too scary.
My girlfriend has been a true partner in dealing with my love of coasters. She has not refused to ride any coaster though some took a little more persuading than others did. But last year when we did our Ohio tour of parks terror struck at PKI. The Beast no problem, his Son no problem, Vortex was easy and so on but when it came to Tomb Raider it was Terror. I waited till the last 15 min the park was open to ride because there was no line. She was getting kind of tired but we had never rode a giant Huss of this nature so I insisted we had to experience it. So she agreed and was up for one more ride to finish off a great day at a great park. Now the restraints on this ride are no joke you are pressed in the seat by the OTSR’s and you are not getting out untill the ride ops let you out. This was the problem because after the ride ended the the real fun began. The ride would not line up with the exit platform so the restraints could not be released. It was 44min and 38 seconds, yes she timed it because she was going to beat me for each second she was being OTSR’ed to death. I was able to keep her calm for about 20 min but when the other people on the ride started freeking out there was not much I could do. People were screeming I can’t breath, I’m going to die, Help, I can’t feel my legs anymore, I am going to pass out. I left out some of the more candid things said but I am sure you can imagine. Well the maintenance guys finally fixed the problem and everyone survived… The parks staff was very apologetic and handed out some free coupons but that stuff was too little to late for most of the people that were stuck for an eternity on this ride. It was a long and quiet walk out of the park being that the park had been closed for about 25 minutes. I knew in my head part of her was blaming me for geting stuck on the ride and I was best off not bringing it up. But between you and me, for some strange reason I loved the once in a lifetime experience…Don’t tell her I said that J
Last year was my first time riding a coaster since I was a kid. I remember riding Galaxy of PKD but I think Rebel Yell is what caused me to go into a coaster coma (I believe I was in 5th grade at the time). For the next 27 years I didn't ride a coaster (actually I did take a spin on Wild One when it first opened at Wild World but that was just one time). Finally, last year I rode Roar, then Wild One and worked my way up to S:ROS. Now I dearly enjoy riding coasters. Rode Joker's Jinx and really tempting fate by planning a ride on Batwing in the next several weeks. Starting this weekend, I'm working on building up the courage of a friend so when he goes to Silver Dollar City and Celerbration City in July he will have the GUTS it takes to ride some of these coasters. All thought the coasters I'm going to be taking him on will have more of a bunch than the ones in either of the two parks in Missouri.
One of my friends went on Magnum and will never go on it again. He couldn't even look at MF without getting shakey. The ride that really got him was the Power Tower, though. We actually had to support him when he got off the ride. He still lists the wait at the top as the scariest moment in his life.

I was in A Major Amusement Park last summer and took a ride on the Rainbow. No way would I ride that one again that day in that park!

Not because of any of the usual reasons, but because this particular Rainbow was oscillating in a most peculiar manner, moving along an axis along which a Rainbow is not supposed to move at all...!

Does that count? :)

Not really, but kindly inform the rest of us which Major Amusement Park you are referring to, so we know to avoid said Rainbow. :)

I think that's the main reason I started this thread. Fears like these are almost always quite irrational and illogical. It's all in one's mind. We all know that rides like the ones mentioned are safe, so why do some of us fear them? And how do we overcome those fears? You can force yourself to ride over and over again until you get over it, but who's to say some people ever will? It's all very intriguing...I personally don't understand it. I have had severe anticipation before riding a thrill ride or coaster for the first time, but once I ride, I'm ready to get on again and again.

Psychology expert I am not.
