Oriental Land Co., the owner of Tokyo Disney Resort, is planning a $4.5 billion expansion of the project that includes doubling the size of a fantasy park currently featuring Snow White and Pinocchio rides. The company has begun developing Fantasyland as part of the 500 billion yen, 10-year plan and will also create a new themed port, to be part of the adjoining DisneySea Park, according to Oriental Land, based in Chiba prefecture, a Tokyo suburb. Oriental Land operates the Disneyland and DisneySea parks in Japan with a license from Walt Disney Co.

A 5 episode arc of The Golden Horseshoe Review Podcast just finished that was a fun mix of Japanese culture, differences from American parks, and details we don't see domestically.

Roughly, what is known at this time about this expansion:

- New Fantasyland at Tokyo Disneyland. It will replace Its a Small World, Star Jets, Tomorrowland Terrace restaurant and Grand Prix Raceway (think the Speedway at WDW). A new version of Small World and a Beauty and the Beast area will replace the Raceway. A Alice In Wonderland area will take the place of the original Small World. Dumbo will replace Star Jets. A new two story restaurant with parade viewing will replace in part Tomorrowland Terrace. More things are planned, but I suspect those will be the first things to open, around 2017.

-Tokyo Disney Sea will open a 8th Port. The theme will be Frozen and you can expect the ice castle and Arendelle to be constructed. The budget for the new headlining attraction will be over 400 million dollars.

-900 millions of the 4.5 billion dollars envelope will go behind the scenes. Backstage improvements, improved training for cast members, etc.

- More new shows and attractions will also open from now until 2023. As well, maintenance (which was already the best at any park worldwide) will improve.
