ThrillRide founder Robert Coker announced that after five years, his site ThrillRide! will close on July 13. The site has consistanly been one of the most popular roller coaster sites on the Internet, and is well known for its outstanding ride reviews and "Wild Rumors." The site has been quoted by several parks and popular media over the site's run.
Visit ThrillRide!.
Something is up. I doubt they're completely closing the site. Didn't the just buy rollercoaster.com ?
"but i think that some of us top 5 posters will miss it most"
That's where I think the site went wrong. Forums are not a contest to see who can post the most. His ride reviews were the best on the Net, but the forums were kind of a noisy distraction.

I'm going to miss the ride reviews. Those were pretty cool.
Oh no..Oh no........NOOOOOOOOOOO
It's a shame. I enjoyed the ride reviews and even the rumors.

The site isn't actually down...it just is a blank page. Check the HTML source for proof.

Wow. That stinks.

"Bathroom 1 looks too intense for me"-Ed Markey
I for one will miss Bob's excellently written ride and coaster designer reviews, and the outrageous rumors. There are several bad rumors floating through these forums, as well, so let's not blame them all on Thrillride.com.
I will miss this site, but as the song goes, "You gotta know when to fold em'...Know when to walk away...Know when to run."
I will miss this site. The Wild Rumor Section was the best attraction, Sure they were B.S. Most of the time but they were fun,and enjoyable to read.

Nosk8er, the forums are still there. They will be kept.
Actually the site and the forums are back up, though a bit slow due to very heavy traffic right now. The forums are definately going to stay intact on a different site than Thrillride, along with a new site that will take over much of TR's content, and possibly finally incorporate the old WoC content also.
But Bob got burned out by huge, heavy loads of emails (including a lot of spam from people trying to overwhelm him), financial worries caused from lots of traffic while not a lot of revenues (webmasters know what I'm talking about here), and lots of other stresses and work- including the occaisionally hacker attack (2 DoS attacks from rather suspect sources) Can't say I blame him for not wanting to put up with the garbage anymore.
As for the rumors and whoppers that so many of you love, there are rumor sections in TR's forums, though I have to say that the "heavily moderated" is definately not applicable- espcecially in comparison to some other coaster site's forums (no names)
And neither domain is available or up for sale. Bob is going to use Thrillride.com for some archives, posting his writings, and a bit of other stuff, but it will not be updated. And there are plans already in the work for rollercoaster.com

Willow? Yes, my name is Willow. Would you stop pecking on me on this big droooopppppppppp......
yeah jeff good point i wasnt sure if the forums were gonna stay, and the top five posters were not a contest, they were pretty recognizable....
this is just an idea.... but..... what if everyone clicked on some of the ads? i mean there are probably a thousand members that will visit before the site closes, i think it could be a nice thankyou, seeing as the site didn make any money because no one clicked on the ads....
Some of the saddest news I heard in a while. It was something to keep you going in the winter hoping that your park would get some of the rides that were posted on the Wild Romurs.
So that's why WR/RN hadn't been updated recently. One of my posts was going to appear also! I'm really disappointed, but I understand. As everyone else has said, I'll miss the excellent ride reviews. In particular I loved the review of MF when he described the dangerous trip to get there. Sure the rumors were insane, but there was definitely some truth in there also (Batwing, TA2K, 4 coasters for SFO etc.). Robert's replies to some of the rumors were also great and often funny. My favorite reply was to a rumor about a standup wooden coaster; "You ride it first, and tell me how it was". It'll be missed:(
