Three rides close for the 2001 season at Blackpool

Posted | Contributed by Jez

Blackpool Pleasure Beach has apparently confirmed that it will not be opening the Whip, Vikingar or the Cableway for the 2001 season. They have not yet said whether these rides will be removed, refurbished or if they will re-open next year, but merely that they will not open this season.

I smell a new coaster!

NO, the Whip was scheduled to be removed after the 2000 season, as was the Tumble Bug. Parts are a nightmare for some older rides. Its sad to see them go, but crikey, its not like they are short on thrills on anything else.

When I was there last Feb., they were putting substantial amounts of money into the old Arrow flume, when other parks maxed out for space, they could have added a new version of a Shoot the Chutes, yet they chose to maintain an older ride.

Besides, they should be commended on everything they do to preserve their coasters, which are still pretty good today.
There's a rumour going round that we could see a TA2K at BPB to open in 2003......
sorry to dampen the spirits of all you wanting a TA2k at BPB in 2003, the ride is a possibility but not yet, the Cableway is supposed to re-open next season as a C ride (Its now a B ride) and the Turtle Chase (Tumble Bug) has porta cabins round it. The Whip did open in the 2001 season during the illuminations, if Vikingar is going then i think that it will make its way to Pleasureland, Southport (Geoffrey T's 3rd park) 2002 looks like a good year, for more information on the new ride visit the address below.
