Three Conneaut rides to reopen for 2006 season

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Three long-closed rides will return this year at historic and financially troubled Conneaut Lake Park. The three rides - the Tempest, Tumblebug and park train - are scheduled to return when the park opens on Memorial Day for the 2006 season, park Manager George Deshner said.

Excellent. I'm the glad the park finally seems to be sorting out its complications and problems. Conneaut is one of my favorite parks. It's a little beat but it has atmosphere and a feeling you can't get anywhere else. I can't wait to ride the tumble bug.

Wonderful! I love hearing stuff like this! I wonder if the Yo-Yo will be back up soon, too. I was totally thrilled last year when Camden Park was able to take down their Thunderbolt Express... That one was just beyond repair.

Conneaut is great, but they still need a Giga!

I am working on it.

What? The Giga or the Yo-Yo? :)
Let's just hope the park is able to deal with all the competition surrounding them. It's nice to know that the park is turning around, but I personally don't think the park can last long without more financial problems. It's going to be tough getting people in there when parks like Kennywood, Waldameer, Geauga Lake, and SFDL are near.

To get the people to come back they need a new major attraction. The rides coming back are ones I've ridden before and they don't give me a reason to go back. When my hometown park doesn't add anything new I don't go to it as much because there's nothing new to make me want to go back. I'm not a gimmick coaster kind of person, but a new thrilling ride once in a while is a good reason to go back. The point I want to make is that the way to get people is to add new things, especially to a park that is small and doesn't have the most to offer in the first place.

The tumble bug is back! Excellent! I haven't ridden that thing in years! ;)
I'm going to Conneaut this year along with Kennywood. You have to admire the fact that they are bringing back some classic rides. the park is like Williams Grove. It's got an 'Old-time' feel that's missing from most amusemnt parks. To bad Williams Grove isnt opening but we still have Conneaut. Check out my tribute page for Williams Grove too. There will be more photos soon. http://mysite.verizon.net/vze7jc8q/id13.html

This makes me happy. Although I visited the park in 2004 and the train was operating so either I'm confused or the article is wrong about that.
No, the article is correct. The train was not operational for a good part of the 05 season. Glad to hear it is being fixed.
The train was running in early june of 2004, I rode it. Unfortunately some late found problems on Blue Streak had it closed though. So I was back last year for rides on that and not the train.

The park lost its scrambler last winter in a roof collapse. :(

Still, last year seemed cleaned up and nice compared to 04

Very good news!

The bug at conneaut is much better than Kennywoods... Due to the lack of sandpaper seats! Im excited to hear this, it is good news!
