Thoughts on Phantom's Revenge

I have heard good and bad things about Phantom's Revenge and would like hear what you guys think.
I have changed my opinion from a few months ago. Coaster Vince, it's awesome! The 2nd drop under the Thunderbolt is even more amazing and the double-dip ending has more airtime on it than any other steel coaster I've ever ridden!

Word to your mothers
It is really a great coaster. The new seats are very roomy and allow a lot of movement (over the Steel Phantom's horse collars). The drop through the T-Bolt is still awesome and the large, swooping curve allows you to catch your breath (just a little) before you dive back under the T-Bolt. Finally, the bunny-hops are fast and fun.

I highly recommend riding it at night. From the station, where you can't see the big curve, the trains make an interesting sound . . . sort of like a Phantom howling in the night. ;)
The think I love about Phantom's Revenge is that it is so unique. It is the only hyper with a twisting first drop (except Pepsi Big Max One or something like that). The build-up of speed happens on the second drop instead of the first. While it may be short, what bunny hills they have are very powerful. Don't let the looks decieve you, it is now my favorite hyper! That thing just rockets around the course!

It's excellent. Morgan really outdid themselves reinventing the Phantom. The 2nd half of the ride after the banked turn is way out of control.

the airtime is insane and i loved it
Phantom's Revenge is a very smooth and fast ride. It is very comfortable to ride, and Morgan did a wonderful job building the ride.
it was smooth, the only thing i didn't like was how short it was but still in that short time it gave u more airtime then anyother coaster i've rode
Kennywood should of completely destroyed the coaster, and add a B&M Hypercoaster, or a floorless.

also the lap bars o it are cool, i've never rode anything with ones like that
StealthmF5m3, why? There's a good chance they would have ended up using roughly the same first half to begin with, and besides, everyone seems to be loving the ride.

Besides, have you been on it? If not, you definitely shouldn't be saying what the park should and shouldn't have done. A few people have noticed my journey this past month or so since the ride opened. I haven't been able to get to the park yet to ride it (thought that'll change this Wednesday), so to this day, I still don't really comment on whether or not it's a good ride. I make a specific point to let people know that I'm voicing the opinions of others... I haven't even voted in the poll on Kennywood Boulevard yet! ;)

I kinda went off-topic there, but the point is, don't judge it or the decision to build it 'til you ride it.

Kennywood could have never afforded a B&M. Never ever ever!!! Their pockets are nowhere deep enough for that.
Sure they could have! After all, they have spent over $40 million on Lake Compounce since 1996, not including the purchase cost. Kennywood owns and operates three other parks not including Kennywood itself.

They do have money, and they are just very cautious on what they use it on. For example, in 1995, they opened Lost Kennywood, the largest expansion in the park's history. In 1999, they spent millions on the Exterminator, and all its theming.

I think Kennywood's next coaster will be a B&M, whether it's an inverted, floorless, etc.
I think the park made the right decision. Kennywood likes to preserve their history (even if it's a partial history), not destroy it. I'll second the comment Lynch made-have you ridden it yet?

Kennywood does not own Lake Compounce, they have a managenemt agreement which allows them to operate it as their own. How much money Kennywood has put in to it is contingent to that agreement.

Before Kennywood took over, HersheyPark had the same contract. They didn't find it profitable, that's why Kennywood's there now.

Yes, you are correct. Kennywood is the managing partner of Lake Compounce. My bad.

The park was sold to HERCO in 1986, but they were unable to achieve any success. According to an ACE flyer, in the late 1980's and into the '90's, the park sometimes managed to open for just one weekend a season, just enough to keep the title of oldest continually operating park.

In 1996, Kennywood took over management and the rest is history...
