Those Crazy Mechanics

Forgive me if this is a stupid question..but i'm fairly new to RCT. Sometimes when a ride breaks down I can't get any of the Mechanics to fix it. I hire more, drop them at the exits, assign them to an isolated area but nothing works. Whats the deal?
Check to see if they are assinged to fix the rides.

Whenever I build a ride I always hire a mechanic and have him assigned to patrol the exit of the ride.I also make sure to set the ride inspection time to every ten minutes. When hiring mechanics the game is set so that both the inspection and fix ride orders are active for each mechanic you hire,
seting one mechanic to a ride is a waste of  money.  Just set the mechanic next to the exit and he will go in.  If it keeps up fire him and hire another...They get "lazy" over the years and sometimed need to be fired, it works for me.  But be patient, it wont be fixed permanently, this is a part of the game, beleive me I have beaten the entire thing.

The best strategy for ride mechanics is this:

When your park is young, hire 1 for every 3 or 4 rides except the hedge maze. Hedge mazes never break down, so set the inspection time to never. Everything else should be 10 minutes. Make sure the patrol routes can access the exit without as few obstacles as possible (ie. dead ends, intersections, etc...) When your park starts raking in money late on, don't worry about the 1:3 or 1:4 ratio, go all out, make it a 1:1 ratio. At that point, you might want to take some of your 1:4 ratio mechanics and have them go down to 1:1 and hire new ones for the rides the old one no longer covers.
It's always worked for me. BTW, they don't get "lazy." I have no clue where he got that idea from. They work just as hard as always, just as your park grows, the more intersections there probably will be (due to more food stalls, midway branches, etc...) making them take a wrong turn here or there. Firing them won't help.

Firing helps!  I do declare!  It has always worked for me.  When the game your playing progresses they seem to get lost easier then the newer mechanics!  If you don't want to believe me then don't and hiring 1:1 mechanics is a very interesting idea.  Would a real park do that? I don't think so.  This really does not matter unless you try to make your parks like real ones and try to be economical.  It's only a game, but it does bring some more fun into it when you try to play it like real life..

I have also noticed that even if you assign a mechanic to the exit it doesnt necessarily mean he will be the one called to fix it. If you have a mechanic roaming the park without an assigned area he might get the call even if he is on the other side of the park.Check your employ list of mechanics to see if they are getting the call and who gets it. If one too far away gets the call use the pinchers and pick him up and drop him back down. That will cancel his work order and maybe a closer mechanic will then get the call.
you can drop the one you picked up at the exit but he may not be the one that gets the call to fix it.
Closing the ride also help even for  1 second, for some reason they seem to respond a lot faster

I always assign mechanics to one or two rides that are close to each other so they can continuously inspect them.  Make sure when you assign a mech to a ride, that the blue area is under at least part of the station platform, not the just the exit.  I have no wandering mechanics, so when a ride breaks down, the appropriate mech fixes it.
hypercoasterman, yes, they will get lost more, even if they are fired and a new mechanic fired. As time goes by, most people build onto their parks. This creats (as I said before) more intersections for the pathetic AI to make choices at. Sometimes it makes the wrong choice... hiring a new mechanic won't make it magically have better AI, it'll still have the same, pathetic, stupid AI.

Hi! I'm Hungry, whats your name?
but if you close the ride you lose all the peeps in line and you get alot of angry guests.

"guest 1376 is lost and can't find the exit"

Yes you will losse guest, so assining them to the exits is the best way to go.
