This is starting to irritate me

Does anybody else notice how misinformed the Six Flags websites are? They are so bad. The specs on all of the rides are blown WAY out of proportion. Example- SF Astroworld's Serial Thriller, 102 ft. tall, 55 mph. SF New England's Mind Eraser, 100ft. tall, 64 mph. Hello??!!! Can a smaller drop produce a higher speed? Whoa, there must be lims on the way down!!! Also, I never knew that Kentucky Kingdom's Twisted Sisters were the first dueling coasters in the world. Does anybosy else notice this? SF is bad enough with there cloning and using the names over and over again. Their website blows too. Ugh. Nobody will notice this though. It is just not right. Every one of there coasters is bigger than every other coaster according to their websites. It is a never ending paradox. *** This post was edited by Craig the Coaster Freak on 6/18/2000. ***
I remember those old Six Flags commercials where they showed the chairman talking to the guests saying that he's really striving to make guests happy and he really cares about the guests. At the end of the commercial they'd say the had the biggest and the fastest and no matter where you live, there's always a Six Flags close by. Well, after seeing those commercials I thought Six Flags had to be the absolute best chain of theme parks ever, that's all changed now, of course. I think most of the general public still sees Six Flags the way I did, and whatever Six Flags tells them, they'll belive. Six Flags is just using peoples' ignorance to benefit themselves.
I agree as well. Has anyone looked at the recent SFOT maps and guides, as well as their website? Well, every single ride says, another first, the first this, the first that, the first wooden coaster to have this many nails in it, the first coaster to do this. It's ridiculous!

I think it is okay to brag about some things, like MF @ CP since it's the first to go over 300 ft, or for Timber Wolf @ WOF when it was the #1 wooden coaster in the world in 1991. Some things are okay but I think these Texans are taking that 'bigger is better' thing too seriously. Hey, just because the state is bigger than 48 other states doesn't mean that their egos need to be as well.

Another example is Boss @ SFSL. They state that the speed is 66.3 miles per hour. Come on!

Make it stop!

I agree that I am tired of the hyped up comparisons and inflated statistics. All the parks need to relax and focus on the important things. Just give me a clean park, great new innovations and a friendly way to have fun. BUT, in their defense, nobody beats Six Flags Season Pass deal. It's like Willy Wonka's Golden Ticket when you know you can use it at 28 parks. I've done 11 of them this season so far. What a deal!

"You have to scale a lot of lift hills to coast easily..."

Yeah, I don't even care about MF records that have been stretched. Now that I have seen some of these Six Flags sites, those records seem so true to me.
But isn't twisted sisters the first dueling coaster? I know it isn't the first racing but i belive it is the first dueling.
I believe Twisted Sisters opened a month or so before Dueling Dragons at IOA. I believe DD was anounced first though.

No that is bull, racing coasters and dueling is the same to me. What about Gwazi? That was opened in 98' right? I'm not totally sure.
Then how is Lightning Racer the only one dueling/racing coaster in the country?

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that has noticed this. It's starting to really get annoying!

Check out the stats for Goliath -- "a near vertical 61º drop." Near vertical?!?! 61º is closer to 45º than 90º!!

The one that really kills me is Medusa at Marine World. Right on the main page of the website it says "CHALLENGE MEDUSA, THE WORLD'S FIRST FLYING ROLLER COASTER!!" What?!? First, it is a floorless, not a flying -- Stealth is the only true flying coaster. Second, Medusa at Great Adventure opened a year earlier, so Marine World's can't be a first at all!! This is completely ridiculous.

Has anyone seen the brochure for SF Ohio? On the cover is a big picture of a wooden roller coaster with the logo for the Villain right next to it. The only problem is that it is a picture for the Rattler at Fiesta Texas, clearly showing how it is built on the quarry wall!! The TV commercial shows the same thing! This is just plain lazy. Is it that hard to go take a picture of the actual ride? They do the same thing with BKF -- all the pictures are of Medusa.

Six Flags has some awesome coasters, and like FloridaFlyer said, their season pass deals are fantastic. I just wish they would let their coasters speak for themselves.
The commercials for SROS at SFA are way off as well. I think they are showing pictures of Viper at SFMM instead of Superman. It doesn't even look close! It has like OTSR's and stuff. It's just stupid.
Yeah, I have seen the new SFO commercial. It shows Superman: The Escape to demonstarte Superman: Ultimate Escape. Wow. How bad is that?
A couple of remarks.
Gwazi was built in 99'.

Just because a park boost its resume by saying certain things that are either exagerated and or just plain not true does not mean that this park is not a good park. Most of the people who think of these things have to think of the general public not the average coaster lover. So saying that a coaster is near vertical even though it is 61 deg. well it sure isn't horizontal. and it is closer to vertical than horizontal by saying this it may attract more of the GP and the park wins. And they will never stop.

The adds and or commercials wich use other coasters at other parks are done for reasons beyond the parks control. Most Park pamphlets and commercials are edited and printed months before the seasonal parks open. So If a park waited until they could get actual shots of their coaster the new pamphlets would not be out until the middle of the summer and would not be as effective in drawing the general public, SFSTL did this with the Boss in wich you can clearly see a Green and Red Coaster in the background in the trees. STL does not have a Green/Red Coaster.

Lihtning Racer is the only Coaster that Both Races and Duels. There for it is the only Racing/Dueling Coaster. Twisted Sisters was the First Dueling Wood Coaster. Gwazi Is the Southeasts largest double wooden rollercoaster.
(Thunder Run is actually bigger)

Six Flags is the Best Park chain by virtue of strength in Numbers. They may not have the best individual park but they have twice the parks of anybody else. If I had to pick between buying a Cedar Fair season pass a Six Flags season pass a Paramount season Pass a Busch Season Pass or a Disney Season Pass and I was traveling across the country the SF pass would be an easy choice. It would also be the cheapest of most parks and in some cases such as disney there is no pass that can get you in to all the disney parks

Okay, you can't complain about the comercials. Six Flags has to produce the commercials months before the ride is even close to opening, so they can't really go film it for a commercial when the thing is still under construction.

The Six Flags St. Louis commercials do the same thing. They show another SF woodie instead of The Boss. This is obvious. But how else would they advertise the park. They can't wait until it opens to advertise it.

Worlds of Fun's Boomerang commercial is clearly another Boomerang. The track is white and the trains are red.

About the stats though, that's another story.

Oh yeah! I forgot about Superman. Their website does the same thing. The picture for Road Runner Express is the one from Fiesta Texas, and the picture for the Villain is Roar.

I realize commercials and brochures are made in advance, but at least show something close. The Rattler looks nothing like the Villain, and Superman the Escape is nothing like Superman the Ultimate Escape. As for the websites, there is no excuse. They could go out and take a picture with a digital camera and have it online the same day. *** This post was edited by RagingBull on 6/23/2000. ***
Stats are exagerated and stretched to fool the general public and in some cases it fools people who consider themselves experts. It does not bother me because usually When I go to a park I know before hand what coasters are there what there stats are and how good a ride they are. You can never believe an advertisement in anything because they always have a way to make something look or sound better. This is always true in everything in the world today not just coasters.
