http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2327273788&category=15825

The Wild West Museum and Theme Park is in a town called Union, IL - which is located between Chicago and Rockford.

Get your bid in soon....there's already been a couple of bids and it's already over $2 million!

Is this the first time a theme park has been put up for auction on eBay? Will be interesting to see how much it ends up selling for!

Looks like it's time to go play the lottery ;)

Though the reserve isn't met yet, 2mill really isn't that much, but there aren't any coasters!

waste of time;)

There was one in Arizona (Dogpatch?) on Ebay last year.

When we were in Sandusky for Coastermania, we didn't even look at Sports City. Is it actually closed, or is it just for sale?

So this isnt a hoax?

Why would a park be put up for sale on an internet auction block?

By the way, I go with my daughter to this park every year. Sure, it doesnt have coasters, but it is a relaxing park themed to the wild west.

However, this park doesnt generate alot of business, so I could see them possibly selling it. But, its been a family owned(Donelley family) business since 1975.

A couple years ago, they said that they were considering installing a mine train coaster. Guess the funds werent there to do it.

Kind of sad if this is true.

It looks like Labor Day will be the last day. After that, the highest bidders have 2 weeks to clear EVERYTHING out. I suppose a new hotel will probably go there :(

That was a fun place to go. Not sure if they fell on hard times, or if the owners (who own several marinas in the area) just wanted to dump the place and sell/redevelop (assuming they owned the land).

Hmm, that Wild West Museum and Theme Park looks interesting. Seems to have some potential.

Hmmm, I think I'll add a log flume or rapids ride, three or four flat rides and a junior sized steel coaster.

Of course that is if I had the money to purchase it.

X Factor

Chitown,

Yep, it's true... Check out the article from the Chicago Tribune, but also not, according to that article noted the $2 Mill bid, but stated that the Donleys indicated that the bid is "way off" from their required minimum. It goes on to state that "the reserve price is probably too high for a buyer only interested in the land for home sites or commercial use"

Sports City is closing - but might reopen in a couple of years.

The property was sold to a Cincinnati-based developer who is building a shopping center. Stores will include Home Depot and Kohl's.

The Hoty's, who own and operate Sports City, say they may return in the near future at a different location with different attractions. It's not the priority, but they're not going to forget about SC.

This would be the perfect place for the CPO to set up camp. Maybe they are fervently mowing lawns to get a down payment together.

I'd never even heard of this park until I saw it on the news yesterday. I admire the owners for not just selling the land to real estate developers.

Re: Sports City... [godfather] That developer probably made them an offer they couldn't refuse [/godfather]

Seems unusual to sell everything off down to the nuts and bolts if you plan on reopening someday. It seems like it would be more cost-effective to at least save some of the equipment than to go buy it again later. I'm sure they've got plenty of space at their marinas.

The property that Sports City stands on was sold because for that road it was a waste of prime real estate. Hoty's will make a lot more money by leasing out the property to the stores than they ever made with Sports City.

You can't stand in the way of progress.
