The Zyklon name controversial?......Who knew?

Its funny that no one complained about the band Anthrax until the whole issue with the USPS arose after 9/11.

I'm guessing that most people didn't even know what anthrax was until that happened. ;)

Exactly the same happened with Brighton Pier's Z****n coaster which was renamed from Z****n to 'Turbo'. It was covered in the local papers for the reasons mentioned above when it happened in 1995 (I think).

words can take on negative connotation... which is why we have the Washington Wizards now. Ugh.

Y'know, funny you should mention that. Aren't KKK bosses (if you wanna call them that) called Wizards? Didn't stop Jordan.

"Gay Dolphin Park"?!

Who said that Thunder Dolphin was a controversal name?

I always thought that "Big Dipper" translates to something sleazy.

Gay Dolphin???....Next to the Gay Dolphin Gift Cove!
I remember that from my childhood visits to Myrtle Beach!!! (Is it still there?)

Who but a Gay Dolphin could do such magic with Shell Art!

What have we come to when a roller coaster has to be politically correct? lol. People will never cease to amaze me. The only thing controversial are people who have nothing better to do than look for things to complain about.

Saying that, I see that the Rebel Yell, Demon, and Hellevator have survived. :-)

<---who thinks the "Wildcat" is offensive to my kitties and should be banned!!! lol.

Let's just name them all "Coaster". Anybody offended by that?
Heck yeah I am offended by that.

I put my beer on a table coaster so it wouldn't leave a water mark. To my dismay, the coaster was slightly hanging over the table, which resulted in my beer bottle tipping over and soaking my carpet.

I had to go rent a Rug Doctor to get the stain out.

Call a rollercoaster by the name of "coaster", and I will notify the local authorities. :)

mOOSH, its a gay "dolphin" didn't you know all dolphins were gay? thats why they smile all the time. If it were called "Queer Dolphin" or something else and thats just not politically correct;). Oh, and before anybody says anything, I'm sure Mooshie knows i'm just joking, M@ is a friend of mine:)

Actually, Gay Dolphin Gift cove is still in MB, i go everytime I'm there. The park was gone way before I was ever there, though. Shame, I think they had a space Needle there too.

I'm Baaaack...

With coasters or, "joy rides", pain and fun, terror and pleasure are mingling together.
It's called "vertigo" or "thrill".
People call it fun to be almost killed... to be almost decapitated.. to be in the impression that something really terrible is about to happen.
All of these things have actually happened.
People have been decapitated, people have been thrown off skyscrapers, etc.
Still no one calls off the thrill industry as being tasteless.
It's just human nature.
We like to be in a state of emergency.

I'm personally offended by anyone who thinks "gay dolphin" is an offensive name for a theme park or shop or whatever.
:)

The same thing happened with MAntis at Cedar Point. It was originally supposed to be called Banshee, but some Irish people were affended bercause in Ireland a Banshee is a female folklore that when she screams, a family member would soon die.

Superman. . . I appreciate what you had to say, but if you fear decapitation and death on your "joy rides"...maybe you should search out a safer park.

I get enough 'fear of death' experiences on the subway.

I'm Jewish & never have associated the poison gas when looking at that coaster's name. Very, very different meaning. It doesn't offend me, maybe because I was born well after the Holocaust.

I can understand the survivor's reaction to this. Imagine them seeing this name on a coaster being the same as the on for the gas used to kill their whole families.

Their first thought would be "how awful! Did they pick that name on purpose to offend us?" Or something like that.

They don't realise that the manufacturers never ever thought about the gas when naming it. It's a very long reach! Except to survivors & a portion of non-survivors.

I like the name, Zyklon, which is a totally different thing to the gas.

Too bad Jesse Jackson doesn't post here....

Well, I used to be able to see TTD from my house, then I moved.
Life's not fair.

I could see people offended if the coaster had canisters of Zyklon B for themeing and the ride ops wore nazi uniforms.

When are people going to complain about Serial Thriller at SFWOA for glorifying Serial Killers. Next thing someone will complain about Grizzly because one of their relatives was mauled by a bear.

I guess people will always find somthing to complain about. What ever happened to the religous park. I want to ride Jesus the ride!

Signature will be closed today. Sorry for the inconveinance.

It's not like they named it the "Holocoaster" or "The SS: Supreme Scream"

Man if they get pissed about that, then what are they going to think about "Concentration Camp Snoopy"
