Looks can be deceiving. While I have not ridden it I have friends who did on ACE's Europe trip last summer, and they all said it was one giant dud.

If you check out this pic and this pic you'll see that trains are going so slowly by the time they reach the end of the ride a short chain lift was needed to get trains back to the station.

I rode it on the ACE trip and was disappointed. It was one of the coasters that I was looking forward to the most too. The lifts are so slow that you could read a book going up them. The trains are uncomforable and the ride itself was quite rough, especially the second half. I wouldn't say it was awful, but it just didn't meet my expectations.

Thats too bad but I bet a lil TLC and track reworking would make it rock!

I've been on it. One word --

Brutal.

The first half of the ride was boring. Nothing much to write home about really; the lift hills take a really long time, as Sue's said.

The second half of the ride had extremely violent snaps from side to side. I'm not talking about strong lateral Gs -- hell I like strong lateral Gs -- but not when the changes are so violent they leave me covered in bruises.

This ride did nothing for me to be honest.

Regards,
Richard

Okay so maybe some MAJOR TLC and track reworking. lol

I had more fun on the Mickey Mouse Train at Disney.

This ride (and park) is a joke! Apart from the two lift hills, it rarely gets off the ground. There were some good laterals after the second lift, but the other 5 minutes were a complete bore.

I didn't find it rough, but I haven't ridden it since 2000, and won't be in any rush to ride it again.

Talk about over-hyped or what!

Wildfire01 - it just goes to show you that great heights, speed, or length is not enough to make a good coaster.

I think the Ultimate was more or less built inhouse. The designers had no experience in designing coasters. The only other coaster they built was a kiddie ride, which doesn´t exist anymore.

I rode this coaster in 1993 and it wasn't too bad then. Well, when I say wasn't too bad I mean it wasn't too rough (the OTSRs had been replaced with the weird new restraints).

as well as the slow lift speed, the train was practically at the bottom of the first drop by the time it left the lift and the run to the second lift was pointless - probably there just to grab the length record.

I liked the drop from the second lift - it was fairly high for it's time. Some of the sideway swoops were okay but all in all we rode it once then concentrated on other things. I don't think I'd bother with another ride if I went back to Lightwater Valley (pretty unlikely).

"Weird new restraints"??? Do tell.
Man that ride is overrated and underrated.

I've heard of it before, but this is the first time I've seen it discussed. And I've been on the Buzz for a few years(although I signed up only months ago.)

Hell, I've never even seen a layout pic of this thing.

I liked Lightwater Valley. The Rat was certainly cool. Like other posters, I was disappointed in The Ultimate, though. It was fun, in a weird sort of way. The women's underwear hanging on the turn after the second lift was amusing. (Shows how slow it's moving!)

Damn I must be the only one who liked that coaster! I thought the first half was nothing special, but cool how it went along following the curve of the terrrain, but the second half was awesome! Major out of control feeling (which I love, hence Legend being #1 wood) and just an overall long, intense (with some air, too) coaster. I was upset I only got two rides on it.

As for the park itself, I don't think I ever laughed so hard at a park in my life. Everything there was just *random* to the max! I loved it!

Joe,

Count me in as one that was very surprised by this coaster. I only got one ride on it but it was enough for me to consider making a trip back to ride it again someday. I even know of one person that list it as his number one steel.

While I can certainly see while others wouldn't like it, I myself thought it was very unique and enjoyed it a lot. Yes, even the first half. That second half was brutal, but in a very good way IMO.

As for the rest of the park.....well, let's just say I had one of the best times there, thanks to the strange nature of some of the rides.
