If at first you don't succeed, hide all evidence of trying.
Back in the roaring 20's almost ever park had some sort of ride or booth that if we saw today we would be appaulded. Even everybody's favorite park, Cedar Point, had a racist ride.

Corbin what do you mean by a racist ride I do not under stand? I am sure kennywood ride the tumble bug and wips would have been popluar rides.

What I mean is the train at Cedar Point (the old one that promised a view of the jungles) had a few themed sections. One of those sections was called Darkey Town. The section had African-American characters sitting on porches without shoes and other things. From what I hear other parks had such theming or something called Dunk a (word that rhymes with bigger).
Yes, like Chicago's Riverside had a booth like that. Park's also had rides that we would have loved but safety freaks like Markey would have put to death. I think Coney Island and other parks of that time should be thanked for creating many of the flat rides that we love today!

The tumble bugs and whips were more for the thirties. Rocket Ships were around for about 20 years in the tewnties. Also, the ferris wheel. Also, airplane trainers were used on midways.

BK: Riverview actually. It was called "Dunk the Nigger" (aint that cute) They later changed the name to "African Dip" (oh gee, thanks!).

RV also had this one ride (not sure if from the 20s though) called The Boomerang. You were loaded into this little teacup like pod. The pod was then attached to a rotating platform. After a little while of spinning, the pod released from the platform and was sent careening off into a tunnel. At the end of the tunnel, the pod hit a wall and bounced back out the way it came in. I'm sure *THAT* was an insurance nightmare. Imagine if you had your hand outside the car when it it the wall...

Anyway, the funniest looking 20's attraction to me was the "Human Pool Table". All the clips show a bunch of white people in suit sliding around like fools. It always makes me chuckle.

An SFBrat who is resigned to the fact that the world is filled with Six Flags Haters....it's tragic that they waste their lives like that
Crystal Beach Cyclone, The Lightning, those were some of the mowst intense coasters ever, or so they say.
