The Points Next Coaster?

OK, SFMM is adding 3 in 2001 to beat Cedar Point for the coaster count record. What do you think Cedar Point will do in 2002?

I think they could get 3 small coasters such as a Mack Wild Mouse , Boomerang or Invertigo and an Intamin Impulse coaster. I'm not sure how they would do with the shuttles for capicity unless they put two of each in. I think it would be a cheap way for them to get the record back. Then the following year add somthing big such as a Thrust Air of Flying Dutchman.

Didn't Kinzel say something about some filler rides in 2002. Little spending these next two years may mean something BIG in 2003.

I really wouldn't be supprised to see a new ride of some sort because they allocated 14 million for spending next year (on improvements), yet the waterfountains and the arcade reconstruction have been scrapped. Repaving portions of the midway and a couple of cabins don't cost $14 million.

It's very possible they would put some sort of cookie cutter roller coaster in just to tie SFMM. Of course they wouldn't be doing it to tie the mountain, SFMM only has 14 coasters ;)

That's true, I guess you can't really call Psyclone a coaster ;)

CP could do that. But CP wouldn't, because when is the last time they added some cheap coaster? They go for quality. Besides what would they gain tying the record for the most coasters. It's not going to get more people in the park.CP could add a kiddy coaster but they already have Jr.Jemini and Woodstock Express.

I think it's more wishful thinking than anything else. CP will stick with thier plan as usual.

"X" marks the spot in 2001!
Personally, I don't know if Woodstock Express would be there without Camp Snoopy as a whole. That whole area was the main addition to the park in '99, wasn't it?

Yes Camp Snoopy was a big investment. It was complete with rides and a family coaster.

CP might change its plans however to reclaim its record, why wouldn't they. Remember roller coaster development is a two year process. With the news of MM, Cedar Point could plan 2 coasters for 2002 and start building buy winter this year. MM won't be building a new one for a while anyway

Number 1 And Only Cedar Point

You wanna talk freefall? Try this: 200ft, 88.5 degree head first dive! Only at SFMM in 2001!
Well IMHO SFMM will end up being like SFGADV, and will not be able to keep all their rides open at one time. When a park expands so rapidly, with "E ticket" rides, they will have trouble keeping employees in number

Scorching the Competition in 2001

You've kinda got to put it into perspective. To, say, Waldameer Park up near Erie, investing little would be to do nothing. When you talk about Cedar Point doing nothing, they're really adding some multi-million dollar campground or kiddie rides. That leads me to believe that maybe the first phase of that ever elusive "Boardwalk Project" is coming in 2002. Maybe a Wild Mouse or a few flat rides, plus the construction of the boardwalk would probably seem reasonable for the "little to nothing" projection everyone's giving. Then, in 2003, they might (hopefully:)) build a re-creation of the Cyclone or a Flying Dutchman. Just my 2 cents.

Fear the Wrath of the Phantom!
As Kinzel has said on many occasions: "All rides and investments are planned at least 2 years in advance." So in other words, if they didn't think of it in 2000, it won't happen in 2002.
If only I had a dime every time that a thread was born of "CP's next this or that..."

Now it is true that in a recent interview, Kinzel mentioned that "filler rides" are coming in '02. But there is a point that is missing. I hardly think that Kinzel would make an announcement that there would be a coaster coming in 2002, two years before the fact. If this were the case, he might as well just fax his capital improvement plans to Six Flags.

Now, what is it that Jeff always says? "...those who are in the know..."
