The New CB Thoughts...

I just thought that it was odd that the "Black and Gold" was made the default rather than the "Classic Green", especially since the color change option is only for club members. I would have *thought* that the default would have been closer to the "same ol' same ol'" and the other colors would have been part of the *upcharge*. But what the hell do I know. Maybe Jeff is an Alpha like Stuart Scott :)

Personal Opinion: I like the layout, but hate the colors. Then again, I hated the most recent colors before this one. I was really partial to the *original* colors. But I got over that color change, I'm sure I'll get over this one too. And won't lose any sleep (I already lose too much over GTA:VC :))

It reminds me of www.GameSpot.com a bit.

Anyway, the site looks very nice.

I think the site looks great, but it's hard for me personally to read white text on a black background and it's very straining on my eyes. Guess its time to get a membership...
i personally didnt like it at first, but its growing on me. the one thing that did annoy me was that it took about 10 minutes to find the log in box!!

Mark B - I'm not denying anyone their opinion. It just seems that rather than politely disagree with HurricaneG people flame him for stating how he feels. That's exactly the point GregLeg was trying to make in the "I-Fan had a point" thread. Whether or not someone pays to be a club member is irrelevant to having an opinion on the site.

Just because someone thinks HG is an ass doesn't mean they have to act like one, too.

YMMV.

I guess I view CB as shareware. If you like the free demo, than you should pony up the $20 to ensure that the developer is able to continue making good software (in this case, coaster communities). To complain that you don't have the same access as others who have paid is ludicrous. It's not as thought Jeff is penalizing the non-paying members with a bad layout or anything.

And BTW, i know how much sites cost a month, even with extra bandwidth, and yet i don't have any ads or membership fees.

And I'm guess your site doesn't serve 8,000 visitors a day in the off-season either. I also doubt that your ISP is going to credit you $40 for every hour of down time.

I'm all for criticism, but it does need to be constructive.

The default theme is just what I started with. The others didn't even exist until a few days ago. There is no conspiracy to get people to join the club. I didn't survey a focus group and ask, "Which one do you hate the most," and use that one. I used this one because I liked it.

That said, I'll consider making some changes after I spend some time with my wife, who I've probably been neglecting the last two or three weeks working on this site.

For mentioning that i have a site is a crime? Did i give the url? Did i say it was better? It's not even a roller coaster website, i don't live over coasters like some of you.

I happen to prefer lighter backgrounds on websites with a lot of reading.

I agree with mark.

I like the site before the re-design and now I love the design. I think pretty soon I am going to fork out the $20 for the club.

STU? Man, you just have NO idea, jeremy....if I ever got even ONE shot at PTI, oh baby, Wilbon and Kornheiser would have to SHARE a seat on the other side of the table...

Back to topic....what Jeff said.....please phrase your criticisms in the form of something *constructive*...like a new wooden coaster...you get more flies with honey, etc., etc. (Although I still have yet to meet anyone that actually eats the flies they catch)...;)

I think I'll be joining CB club soon because of all these nice new enhancements available in the new version like the My Sites, Yahoo! like interface, and changable styles.
The layout is good, but the color scheme is terrible

Rift, it is interesting the you mention Game Spot, because I thought the EXACT same thing.... Now, that I have had 24 hours, I am really into the new site (and yes, I changed my page to classic Green).

I appreciate the time it took for one individual to build a site for MY use. Yes, I am a club member, but not because I had to be. I wanted to be. I am all for paying somebody for something I use. I am a consumer, and I sure as hell hope that when my band breaks, you guys pony up and buy the CD, not make copies of it online.

Oh yea, forgot to mention that the site was harsh at first but I'm warming up to the colors slowly but surely. The new design itself is definitely an improvement. :)
I don't see why everyone doesn't like the colors I love them for some reason. I think I am just strange.

Hmm...well maybe I chould become a member so I can change the colors to Krimson and Kream ;)

Anyway, we went through the same thing when Jeff upgraded the site many moons ago. I'm sure the ol' skool peoples remember the whining and complaining when the green was introduced........which goes to show...ya just can't please Americans.

I do have to admit, no matter what the color set, the new look has to grow on you... But as far as people saying that web sites should be free, well... They need to try running a site without using geocities or tripod. Bandwidth does cost, and the better service you want does too. Besides, if Jeff were to pay someone to do the backend for this site, I'm sure it would cost more than a the total number of paid club memberships, or even a year's worth of bandwidth.

Not that it would be a possibility (but who knows), the ability for people to assign their own CSS for when they are logged in would be really cool... But I dont think I would ever see that for quite a while.

Once again Jeff, kudos.

OK...is it just me or did the background and text suddenly swap? Is anyone else now seeing black text on a white background on the default color scheme?

If so, thanks Jeff ;-) Its much easier to read!

Moosh - who didn't mind it the other way around.

Yes, Jeff swaped the colours - see the thread about it here.
