B:TR or Cyclone...both still going strong
How about Arrow's Corkscrew coaster? That was the first coaster to introduce the corkscrew. That coaster led to so many improvements, and new ideas that make up todays modern loopers. I think that is a very successful coaster.

I would have to agree with ucdaap42 and say that Gemini is the most successful. I've been riding it since they built it, and it's still great today!!

Well then lets just say "sucessful" by all three accords: fame brought to its owner and designer, number of rides, and popularity today. Im sure there can only be a small handful of coasters that could fit the bill. Maybe some of the Superman: Ride of Steel coasters. Not very old, but predictable in their success.

You've got a point...That's true, and thanks to this one, years later Kumba was born, and led to the creation of the truly good modern looping coasters...

And the world is spinning, Spinning baby out of control
I let the music (and the coasters) take me, Take me where
my heart wants to go. Impressive Instant, Madonna.
How about the Cyclone, through all the crap that happens in that area, and its still going strong.
cdaap42-
I'll have to agree with you. I *almost* had more fun on Gemini as I did on MF. Almost. The walk-ons didn't hurt either. That ride is awesome. Can someone enlighten me on why there are so few of these types of rides built? How many years has it been since they put this thing in...and it's still extremely smooth. CP rocks.

The beast for a coaster to be so old and so popular is amazing.
I think Batman the Ride or Magnum would be the most successful ride, but since I didn't really like Magnum since I think its way overhyped I would have to go with Batman the Ride.

i thought i was the only one who LOVED gemini, its one of the best. the airtime, the first drop (in the back, oh yeah) and the EXTREME smoothness (more so on red) of the ride, plus it was the tallest when it opened. but i would think that the arrow corkscrews and revolution at magic mountain would have to be the most successfull.

t h e r e s a monkey in my pocket and he stealing all my change, his stare is blank and glassy i suspect that hes diranged.....
In terms of History, I might have to say Runaway Mine Train at Six Flags over Texas. It was the tubular steel coaster that started the steel frenzy, and was also the first Mine Train roller coaster.
In terms of installations I would have to go with the Vekoma Boomerang. The General Public loves them (why is beyond me) and they are fairly inexpensive and small, giving the smaller parks something to pull in guests and stay alive, and the larger parks a big pile of metal that causes headaches..oh..i mean..a ride that the majority of their guests like

I'd have to go with Windjammer at Knott's Berry Farm!
Okay, I'll be serious now. It's not really along the same lines as some of the other coasters being mentioned, but what about Space Mountain?
I would have to say the Vekoma Boomerangs and thier Suspended Looping Coasters and of course, B&M's Batman :The ride!
After thinking about it for a while I would have to say Gemini. Just about everyone you talk to who has rode the Gemini loves it. It still gives tons of rides a year just like the big boys (Raptor, Millennium Force, Magnum), and its great for all types of coaster riders (novices to experienced).
I agree with Xander and think it’s the mine train. When you think about it, Gemini and Magnum are just oversized mine trains. And Magnum led to the ‘big-coaster-with-no-loops’ style everybody loves. Intamin and B&M have made many advances, but it’s still a train running on tubular steel track.
What about Mindbender at SFOG??? It's almost 25 years old and is STILL one of the top 20 steel coasters in the world according to Amusement Today. Especially since like 90% of the steels on that list are from the mid 1990's onward. It is one of the most unique coasters in the world, and still has long lines every day.

I for one who loves Nitro I would have to proudly say it the CYCLONE AT CONEY ISLAND!!! This was my first roller coaster and always in my heart the best! I'm proud to be a New Yorker! The borough of QUEENS represent! and shout outs to Brooklyn the home of the CYCLONE. :)

"Lookout" it's NITROGIRL!!!
I'd have to put my vote for Shivering Timbers, though I'm not a raving lunatic fan of it like some (the Legend has my heart) it certainly put the otherwise horrible Michigan's Adventure park on the map. Immediately after it opened people were gushing on the net about and it lead to many, many enthusiasts going completely out of their way to ride it and despite it's inconvenient locale it still has managed to rank very highly in the Golden Tickets for a couple of years now. Obviously this really is only success in the Enthusiast community but thought I'd throw the angle out anyhoo...

SRM 2001: No Lights! No Brakes! No Bell?!
I think discovery channel should do a show about the 10 most succesful coasters, or something like that. It would be pretty cool I think.
