The little things that bug ya!

One thing that Chris Sawyer has not spent a thing on is stations! They are SO unrealistic. I know that its a game and its not perfect but look at it this way:

Would you rather have him spending a LOT of time designing a damn wooden reverser coaster?

Or a little time designing a descent station?

He has added a lot of junk when he could have spent his time trying to work the little things out

In RCT2, we have TVs, ATM machines, ect. But for example, many of the coasters are unrealistic. For example, is Deja vu 55 feet? Thats 150 feet off. I'm not sayin it has to be perfect but they could have done a better job. Also, they don't even have the second vertical lift. Is it really that hard to do? Just have a mode that is "Non full Circuit Shuttle Mode" And there you go. Just add a lift, it brings them to the top, and lets them go.

As for the stations go all they had to do is this:

Instead of building those ugly entrances and exits do it this way: Click entrance, choose the side, and click just as a regular entrance. A 2 block seperate queuing area will appear with individual queues depending how long the station/train is. The exit will be one block long. Also on either of the sides there would be a nice little operator booth.

Then you hire the ride ops, assign them to a ride while hiring, they walk up the exit and start the ride, check the restraints and clear.

Also it would say "Cannot open rollercoaster 1. 3 ride operators required"

Something to that effect. It wouldn't be to hard to make.

Any comments/ideas?

If it's so unrealistic, you try doing it. Be happy we even have a sequel, let alone a game to play with.

Some great ideas... maybe we'll see them in RCT3! :-)
I'd love a decent station. I'm not so sure about a descending station.

Heck, I'd be happy just to be able to have the queues and exit paths leave out the SIDES of those little entrance and exit stations.

But I do like the idea of expanding the game play by requiring ride-operators, with larger rides and larger stations requiring more ride operators, adding to the on-going expence of operating the ride.

Yea but all I'm saying is that they should stop doing those strange coasters and rides and spend less time doing something that would make a big difference IMO in the realistic appearence of the game. As I said the tvs, atms, first aid, are all a start which a good little things to add.

You need to remember that not just park fiends play the game. Sure some things would be nice (I'd personally like to be able to add a second or third train without closing the coaster and losing the people in the queue) but for the general game player it's good enough. I'm sure they could have added tons of extras, time was probably the biggest issue after all they only get money when the games on the shelf for people to buy. They took the best things and added them and scrapped the lesser things.

After all I'm sure Chris Sawyer thought that game would have had it's day then fade out like most games do in about a year. Who would have thought RCT would have been one of the best selling games of all time. Heck, 3 years later it's still on the shelf!

*EDIT*I'm sure RCT 2 will be loaded with cool stuff other than new rides, stands, and themes. After all we are able to have a loading and unloading station now. Who knows what other suprises will be in it.

Who gives a damn if the Déjà Vu recreation is 55 feet. I, personally don't build my coasters according to the RCT set up. I set up my own height, speed, and length coversions. If you built a 196 foot DV in the game, you would have a hard time getting people on that ride because of the insane forces.

Not neccesarily. If they let you use large loops, like the ones featured in real life it would be fine. I've tried it with the Inverted coaster and just put it on Shuttle Mode. Sure its not vertical but its a lot more releastic size wize.

one thing i think is really hot about RCT2 is that we will have transfer track...i dont know how thats going to work but its gotta be hot.

That's your problem right there. The screenshot already shows that the DV doesn't have the B&M inverted "giant loops."

My question is, how much would more realistic stations add to the game play? If you ask me, I would become annoyed by having to directly hire people to operate my rides. That sounding too much like Theme Park. I stopped playing that game because it had too much focus on micromanagement. I think that RCT found the right balance between micro and macro management. In real life park operators hire people to hire the ride operators. The people involved in the design of the park don't want to worry about whether or not a ride is staffed. They hired somebody and gave them that responsibility. They don't worry about how much salt is on the fries and it is up to the maintenance department to make sure that rides are being inspected and repaired in timely manner. If they are not then people start getting fired, unless it is a SF park:)
Stations could use some working on. I think that the ride runners and the booths would be a GREAT idea! but you can make new stations with the staked scenery. lines could improve too!

I hope they do have better stations if there is a RCT3. They are pretty unrealistic to todays stations but they are kinda like a station was in the early century (although maybe slightly bigger). As for some of the coasters like floorless, inverted, etc that would be cool to have a station that has the floor lower or sink to the sides.

-----------------
Six Flags, the only chain of parks that can manage to have stacking with a one train operation.

I think the station should be 3 squares wide, with a ride operator's booth stand thingy at the beggining of the station and one music option would be realsitic sound, like: "All Clear? Dispatch and enjoy your ride!" Also, those air gates that open should be in the 3 wide station. One more thing: Actual thoughts on the rides besides "I want to get of...." and "I feel sick". Better thoughts would be " OH MY GOD!!!!!!!" and "Is it over yet?"

I hope Chris is reading this!

-----------------
Out of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!

The 3 block station would be cool. I'd like to see the track all the way on one side then have the other two for in station queues. That way the peeps could pick what row they want to sit in.

That would be nice if they could do that in two cubes (like have the track in one and the queues in the other).
