The "coffin cars" were from 1987-2000.

One of the five or ten best woodies in the chain...replace Psucklone with something that RUNS like CI Cyclone... ;)
Honestly, wouldn't matter to me WHERE it ended up, but TX Cyclone is TOO good to put underthe wrecking ball....this STINKS! :(
Ultra twister was a real treat and if some subtle hinting reflects the truth, a certain park that I used to frequent is getting quite a treasure.
Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."
It's funny to hear someone talking good about UT on this site. Not long ago every ride at AW was a piece of crap. I am not picking on your Andy! It's just Ironic!
It makes me wonder as placement gets announced for more of our rides, and most are going elsewhere, how many of them will all of the sudden become real treat rides. *** Edited 10/24/2005 7:48:53 PM UTC by Markieb***

The park will be open on Sat. and Sun 10/29 and 10/30. The email also says they are NOT selling tickets at the gate for closing weekend. Only people with 2005 season passes or pre-purchased one-day admission tickets will be allowed entry. Tics can be bought online. The email says a limited number of Print-N-Go tickets will be available for purchase this week at sixflags.com, while supplies last. Once the park reaches capacity, the gates will be closed and no one else will be admitted.
Hope that will help cut down on some of the over crowding. I'll be there if anyone wants to meet up...PM me.
Ah if you only knew! You came on a perfect weekend. WE pretty much walked on everything until 8:00 or so.

It got pretty crowded on 10/14 when I was there, too!
I know the numbers, the following weekend doubled what you saw, and this past Saturday tripled it. You came at a VERY good time. Trust ME!

Damn, I would have liked to meet you, Jeff. Rob says you're rreally cool. Remember to check the meeting calendar!
No kidding. It was kind of spur of the moment, and I never thought about the calendar. Now I'm extra bummed as it looks like you're a VHfan on your profile. (EVH is the reason I chose my profession)
Now back to your regularly scheduled coaster discussion...

The public indeed knows. This front page story in this weekend's Houston Chronicle's hard to miss.
It's also been covered in the Dallas/Fort Worth and San Antonio newspapers. Everyone in the State of Texas and probably a few neighboring states should know by now that AstroWorld is closing.

Managed to ride with the last public train before the employees who took the final laps. The general manager, operations manager, director of maintenance etc. were on the final cycle which took place about 2 1/2 hours after the park closed at 6.
The park was at capacity yesterday and all attractions were open, even the Astroway and Thunder River, all except Tidal Wave (which had already begun to be torn down along with WaterWorld - rather tasteless that Six Flags couldn't even wait 2 weeks to begin tearing down WaterWorld while guests were still visiting Astroworld). Lots of vintage music and advertisements from the 70s and 80s were played over the loudspeakers throughout the park intermixed with the Fright Fest wailing.
Texas Cyclone seemed angry about being murdered and the red train valleyed Saturday Morning, forcing its removal and dissection with a crane. They were able to get the ride operating again with just the blue train later that day.

Antique Taxis - Splashtown Houston (!)
Astroway - scrap/parts
Batman the Escape - for sale
Bamboo Shoot - scrap
Greezed Lightnin - for sale
Dentzel Carousel - ???
Diablo Falls - SFNE
Dungeon Drop - SFStL
kiddie rides - various parks (SFGrAdv etc.)
Looping Starship, Scrambler, Troika - SFOT
Mayan Mindbender - sold to someone in Houston
Serial Thriller - ??? (probably SFFT)
Serpent - scrap
SWAT - SFNE
Texas Cyclone - scrap
Thunder River - scrap
Trains - SFOG
Ultra-Twister - scrap
Viper - sold to someplace in Mexico
XLR8 - ???
But with SWAT going to SFNE, that leaves the ride in question on the plans for Gadv. up in the air. All we have to go by right now is two big circles and the words "New Ride". It could be anything.
I hear what you're saying BatwingFanSFA, but he does have a question mark by XLR-8. One thing SFA has needed is a family coaster, which XLR-8 defnitely fits the bill. It would be a lot better than the brutal headbashing of Batman the Escape. Ultra Twister was a really thrilling and unique ride, but if it's a maintenance nightmare, then the scrapheap is where it belongs. SFA has enough trouble already.
