The Last Week For Astroworld

Those are old pictures, the headrests were removed years ago.

The "coffin cars" were from 1987-2000.

Not the greatest pic (obviously), but here's what they looked like in '03.

One of the five or ten best woodies in the chain...replace Psucklone with something that RUNS like CI Cyclone... ;)

Honestly, wouldn't matter to me WHERE it ended up, but TX Cyclone is TOO good to put underthe wrecking ball....this STINKS! :(

If an older woodie like Starliner can be relocated, why can't TC???

Yeah Jeff. I was there on Sat. with Acoustic Viscosity. We bumped into a couple other buzzers and we also missed out on Mayan Mindbender and the mini-mine train due to lines...

Ultra twister was a real treat and if some subtle hinting reflects the truth, a certain park that I used to frequent is getting quite a treasure.

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

Poor thing you came on the busiest day in a long long time. It was crowded Friday night. Satruday had a little more than twice the people Friday had. Ouch I miss that thank god! I never go on Saturdays.

It's funny to hear someone talking good about UT on this site. Not long ago every ride at AW was a piece of crap. I am not picking on your Andy! It's just Ironic!

It makes me wonder as placement gets announced for more of our rides, and most are going elsewhere, how many of them will all of the sudden become real treat rides. *** Edited 10/24/2005 7:48:53 PM UTC by Markieb***

Damn, I would have liked to meet you, Jeff. Rob says you're rreally cool. Remember to check the meeting calendar!
Our one "ultra twist" was a great cap to our visit. Sadly, we only got one ride on all of the rides we managed, and like Andy said, we missed out on Mindbender and the Mini-Mine Train/Serpent, but we did get to try out SWAT--it was...interesting.
I really liked the park. Despite the LONG lines including 40 minutes just to make it from the I-610 exit to the parking lot, the park was very nice. I wish I had palm trees at my home park. ;)

It got pretty crowded on 10/14 when I was there, too!

Watch for my trip report here soon!

I just got an email from SFAW saying the park will NOT be open this Friday night 10/28.

The park will be open on Sat. and Sun 10/29 and 10/30. The email also says they are NOT selling tickets at the gate for closing weekend. Only people with 2005 season passes or pre-purchased one-day admission tickets will be allowed entry. Tics can be bought online. The email says a limited number of Print-N-Go tickets will be available for purchase this week at sixflags.com, while supplies last. Once the park reaches capacity, the gates will be closed and no one else will be admitted.

Hope that will help cut down on some of the over crowding. I'll be there if anyone wants to meet up...PM me.

I survived a Japanese typhoon and the Togo flat ride of death!!!!!!

Ah if you only knew! You came on a perfect weekend. WE pretty much walked on everything until 8:00 or so.

I know the numbers, the following weekend doubled what you saw, and this past Saturday tripled it. You came at a VERY good time. Trust ME!

No kidding. It was kind of spur of the moment, and I never thought about the calendar. Now I'm extra bummed as it looks like you're a VHfan on your profile. (EVH is the reason I chose my profession)

Now back to your regularly scheduled coaster discussion...

you know its odd why they put the old texas cycone entrance face back up cuz that one was the first face back when the cyclone was green in 1976,

I wonder if the GP even knows that there park is gunna go bye-bye.

The public indeed knows. This front page story in this weekend's Houston Chronicle's hard to miss.

It's also been covered in the Dallas/Fort Worth and San Antonio newspapers. Everyone in the State of Texas and probably a few neighboring states should know by now that AstroWorld is closing.

Yeah, Jeff! VH rules. Wow, Rob WAS right about you. :) *** Edited 10/25/2005 7:22:12 PM UTC by Acoustic Viscosity***

Astroworld's now officially history and the Texas Cyclone will never run again.

Managed to ride with the last public train before the employees who took the final laps. The general manager, operations manager, director of maintenance etc. were on the final cycle which took place about 2 1/2 hours after the park closed at 6.

The park was at capacity yesterday and all attractions were open, even the Astroway and Thunder River, all except Tidal Wave (which had already begun to be torn down along with WaterWorld - rather tasteless that Six Flags couldn't even wait 2 weeks to begin tearing down WaterWorld while guests were still visiting Astroworld). Lots of vintage music and advertisements from the 70s and 80s were played over the loudspeakers throughout the park intermixed with the Fright Fest wailing.

Texas Cyclone seemed angry about being murdered and the red train valleyed Saturday Morning, forcing its removal and dissection with a crane. They were able to get the ride operating again with just the blue train later that day.

Why not just trash the whole park instead? they've got all those coasters being either scrapped or sold but none being relocated.....so much for even any hope of ultratwister being relocated to SFA.
Well he did say that's what he knows, but since I've seen FP's name over at the Astroworld Employees website in the forums, he's read what I've read. I guess the surprise was that SWAT has been said to go to SFNE and not Great Adventure as has been long rumored. Now, that doesn't mean that Great Adventure won't get their own version. If you think it's impossible, just remember that both Houdini's (Vekoma Madhouses) are located three hours apart from each other.

But with SWAT going to SFNE, that leaves the ride in question on the plans for Gadv. up in the air. All we have to go by right now is two big circles and the words "New Ride". It could be anything.

I hear what you're saying BatwingFanSFA, but he does have a question mark by XLR-8. One thing SFA has needed is a family coaster, which XLR-8 defnitely fits the bill. It would be a lot better than the brutal headbashing of Batman the Escape. Ultra Twister was a really thrilling and unique ride, but if it's a maintenance nightmare, then the scrapheap is where it belongs. SFA has enough trouble already.

Why sell Greezed Lightning? Couldnt they easily ship it to Darien Lake? I'm sure they'd be happy for it.
