The Great Adventure/Jungle Habitat connection

I've always wondered if this was true:

Jungle Habitat was a drive through Safari located in West Milford New Jersey during the 1970's. I believe it was operated by Warner Brothers and I have heard that the Safari at Great Adventure was a relocation of sorts of Jungle Habitat.

Can anyone confirm/add more to the story?

I've never heard about this. I guess some research is in my future. Thanks for the heads-up millrace. If I find anything I'll let you know.

millrace,

I am a native of NJ and can remember going to Jungle Habitat in the early 70's.... Great Adventure actually opened before The Habitat closed.... This website http://www.weirdnj.com has some info about JH in the "ABANDONED" section.  Interesting reading.  I was surprised to see the name Jungle Habitat on coaster buzz.... have'nt heard anyone talk about it in years.......

I used to frequent a hobby store up in that area and for years the "Jungle Habitat" entrance gate was still in existence. It always looked kind of creepy all overgrown and partially fallen over.

It is an infamous site in my family. My uncle lost a vinyl car top to a monkey there once.

There is currently a proposal to use the site for dirt bike tracks and other active outdoor recreation activities. I believe the enterprise is named "Extreme Habitat."

Sounds like the Lion Country Safari at PKI topic. Interesting that so many parks were associated with this type of attraction in the 70's. Even SFMM had bison from what I remember. (back where Riddler's Revenge and Batman are)
