The Future of Hershey Park

With the sale announced yesterday, Nestle was a sure bet to buy it but they had already purchased the company who makes Hot Pockets. Now KRAFT has thrown their hat in the ring and is making Hershey an offer..what does that mean for the park? Will it stay the same? Name change? Will we see the Lightning Racer sport trains that look like cheese wedges?

What are your thoughts?

OK Hershey Foods does not own Hersheypark, the Bears, the School etc etc we have went through this many times before.

Secondly through an agreement Hersheypark will always have the rights to the Hershey food and characters. IE Kisses, Twizzlers, Reeses etc.

Don't expect any changes at Hersheypark with the selling of Hershey.

If you do a search, SLFAKE provided us with a very thorough explanation of all this in another thread.

Besides, had there been any hint of concern for the future of Hershey Park, nothing would have happened. The park is part of the community and I seriously doubt anything would be done to change that.

cheese wedges, lol

As long as they keep Franklin Shearer as the manager I'm sure they'll do fine.

My guess is that nothing will happen to the park. Maybe the Hershey characters roaming the park will disapear along with the candy bar height charts. I wondrer what I'll be if I'm not a Twlizzer anymore! :)

You'll be a "Cheesy Mac" now...:lol:lol

Magnum: And you wonder why the good "mature" posters are driven away from this board with rude comments like that. "We've gone over this many times"...well excuse me if I wasn't here to witness it.

Wow I can't say we've been through this many times?

I belive i had a converswation with over the water level of lake Erie too. You were the one who was bound determined that the lake levels should be 100 meters more then they are now if they were at Mid 80's level. Wow 300 feet of extra water. That would put half the pennisula underwater.

I didn't think I was being rude I apologize if I was, but thanks for being ruder yet. I am sorry if I have almost driven off mature posters like yourself.

Is he still manager? I remember someone else doing the "on ice cerimonies" at Bears games (cerimonial puck drop etc) when the park was sponsering something. Also, my wife read another name last night (I forget the name right now) on something at the park in regards to this position.

Kind of hard to take a post as objective if a park or coaster name is part of the "user name"

I think he's still the manager. At least he was during coastercon last year. Then again he might be the assistant manager, i'm not really sure.

Last year, yes... This year... not sure. However, he does still involved in some regards. I mentioned above that someone else did the cerimonial puck drop a few times at hockey games when the park was sponsering a give away etc (an "honor" usually reserved for the GM), he was walking around the promenade walkway talking to folks. While his position may have changed, at least as of last hockey season he was still one of the "suits" associated with the park.

As a side note: With the uncertainty of Hershey Foods (and Hershey Chocolate) future looming, I really noticed its presense in the park when we visited yesterday. I never noticed it before. Guess I took it for granted.

Also, as I was taking my wife's picture standing next to the "Hershey Chocolate Bar" costumed character, a woman and a few kids walked past and the woman yelled to him (as if a candy bar can have a gender) "Don't let them sell ya', Hershey Bar," to which he gave her a big gloved 'thumbs up.'

Franklin Shearer retired just before the beginning of this season. I have no doubt that he left things in good hands, however, so there should be no worries about the future course of Hersheypark.

That said, I'm sure that he'll be missed--anyone who's met him can testify to his love of Hersheypark, the town of Hershey, and amusement parks in general.

Just curious, evvdave... do you know who took over for him? My wife read the name on something at the park last evening, but for the life of me I can not remember it.

I believe the name of the person who took over is Frank O' Connell, but don't count me on that.

Rollergator I agree with you. I always ride the Wildcat in the front seat because its smoother in the front. I decided last visit to take a whirl in the back seat. Damn that was a ride.

As far as room they have plenty of it. My friend(works in PR,) told me they plan on at least 2 more caosters being built into the existing park as it is. Where they are built I don't know, but the "big" one is for their 100th anniversary in 2005. Thats all I know. She said that she couldn't give any of the details away. Actually the last time I had talked to her she had just got out of management meetings discussing their expansion plans.

I know B&M is involved in 1 of the 2 coasters planned. They have already surveyed for it. I want a hyper so bad. ;) A looper would be nice too.

Time will tell what they build, but we all know something is coming for 2005. They won't let us down. I am sure of that.

SmurfRacer beat me to the answer to my own question... Frank O'Connell is the current GM. I checked the Map/pamphlet they give you when you enter the park. There is a "Welcome" message from him that appears on the first or second page.
