The Famous Vekoma Rattle

B&M's roar, Vekoma's Rattle. I rode Silver Streak at PCW and felt as though the train was going to detatch from the track. The rattle was very discomforting and I thought it was only on the new vekoma family inverts. However, when I've been watching coaster shows (again) I heard the Vekoma rattle when watching the Invertigo clip and just recently, the Stealth and I can hear a rattle. However, there was no rattle on Deja Vu or Top Gun at PCW. What causes this rattle and what other Vekoma coasters have it?

I have experienced the "rattle" on both Deja Vu and SLCs. Some rides are rough, some aren't, but I think most every Vekoma has this due to the wheel structures.

Hmm lets see, T2 has it, Serial Thriller has it, Sidewinder has it, Mind Eraser has it, Runaway Reptar has it, X-Flight has it, Face Off has it come to think of it the only Vekoma I have rode that doesn't sound like it is going to fly to pieces is Woodstock Express. Most Arrows do the same thing.

All I need is 4.5 million bucks and a half a mile long sliver of land and maybe someone could build me my very own Shivering Timbers. ;)

Ive noticed it on Deja Vu before and have had the same feeling, I didn't notice that much on X-Flight but on Serial Thriller I did. Its odd because on 1 ride ill hear it, get on that same ride again 5 min. later and not hear it.

I remember Woodstock haveing the rattle. Maybe it wasn't as noticable due to the bell on the engine. Six days a week I heard that rattle.

The absolute worst coasters Vekoma has made, have the rattle in spades. I am talking Batwing, X-Flight and all of the Deja Vu's.

I wouldn't call the flyers junk but man they are scary as heck the way they rattle. First time I rode X-Flight it blew me away, the second time I just realized it's different but not really good.

Superman Ultimate Flight takes the cake though, smooth as glass with the greatest restraint ever designed. Blows Vekoma so far out of the water it hasn't made a splash yet.

Gee I thought that rattle was just my head being throttled in my restraints.

The ONLY problem I have with S:UF's restraints, however, would be in the case of malfunction. Being stuck on the brake run for over a minute gets a little uncomfortable (why use only one station?). I'd rather get sunburn from laying face up in a malfunction than have to deal with endurring a S:UF experience like Mark W. Baruth. Otherwise, B&M's restraints are much simpler and more reliable.

I love the layouts of Vekoma's SLC's and SFOG's Ninja. I just never can endure the train or restraints to really enjoy the awesome potential of these rides. Oddly enough, boomerangs with their rather boring layout are my favorite product of them (Deja Vu and sitdowns.)
