The End of Chain Lifts?

How do they come in contact with the train when needed?

There wont be an end of chain lifts, I only see chains on wooden coasters. I would say in the next few years more elevator lifts maybe built on steel coasters for faster lift speeds.

Inverted coaster coming soon to Valleyfair!

Well, there'll be a simple, yet effective, sensor system that measures the train passing successive points on the track as it goes up hill, if the train fails to make one of these but re-activates a lower one then the anti-rollbakcs will spring up and "catch" the train befroe it manages to roll more than even a foot.
Accually, Xen, I think it's simpler than that. Isn't it like S:ROS's rollbacks? A electomagnetic force that is generated as the train goes up the lift pulls the anti-rollback up, and if the chain should stop/break/whatever, the electomagnetic force loses power, resulting in the rollback dropping down, landing on the racheted part of the lift stopping the train? I'm pretty sure thats what it really is, because doesn't it seem like asking for trouble to use sensors to activate the anti-rollback? Have you ever heard of KISS? I'm sure Intamin has. Keep It Simple, Stupid. It's a very good thing to do when engenieering stuff.

Do your own homework!
The LSM's on Screamin, for the lift, are not exactly quiet. I would not call them loud, but you can still hear them kick in over the soundtrack that is played throughout the ride. The reason they were used instead of a traditional chain was because of the speed the ride would enter the lift hill. It goes about half way up the lift before it looses its speed and requires assistance to the top. From what I hear, that would have been very hard on the chain dogs had they used a traditional method.

Speaking of KISS, why didn't they simply use spring loaded dogs so that electromagnetic force isn't needed? Does anybody know why they didn't want the clickity clack?

Yeeee Haaawwww!
LIMs will never replace Chain Lifts, if anything it'll be the Cable Lift and then probably only on newer, bigger, steel coasters. Plus, LIMs have too many problems to replace chain lifts, just look at Volcano and its problems in the beginning.
Also, CoasterFanMatt-LIMs have been use since 1996, the first coaster to open with LIMs was Outer Limits: Flight of Fear (now known as Flight of Fear) at PKD followed closely by the opening of the one at PKI.

They didn't use spring loaded anitrollbacks because they would always be up then! What would make them come down? When the train stops moving, the electromagentic force stops, dropping the antirollback. Making them spring loaded just wouldn't work.
I heard they made them that way for 2 reasons. Reduce noise, and reduce the wear on the things.

Hey, SFGAm managment, can I buy a couple cages of Sky Whirl?
