The Electric Question

Are all rides working in California with the large energy crisis, if not which ones.? And any problems at PKI with Cincinatti and their cerfew problems.

Either way make sure its on a coaster
PKI is way out in the country. PKI isn't directly in the city of Cincinnati, it is out by Mason and Kings Mills. The curfew only affected the city of Cincinnati. PKI is not even in Hamilton county.

and I believe the curfew has been lifted.

We haven't experienced blackouts for a few weeks now. They usually lasted about 2 hours and typically only happen on weekdays when power usage peaks. We'll probably see the same thing this summer.

I know some of the parks did shut down some of their rides like in a rotation. Ride A off, then an hour later, Ride B off ride A on. I'm not sure if they still do that.

What's this Cincinnati curfew thing about?

I pledge defiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republicans, whom I can't stand, one nation, under smog, indespicable, with liberty for just us, not all.
Some losers thought they would go out and vandalize and riot in downtown Cincinnati. A young man got shot and killed by police, this is what sparked it. So because of these idiots rioting in downtown, the mayor imposed a curfew to stop the violence.
A cop shot and killed a unarmed black person and they had problems with rioting after the fact. Apparently, this isn't the first time something like this has happened in Cincy and things got out of control this time. Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of the details.

-------------
Thank you for riding America's Roller Coast
The thing the caused the rioting the most is that it was a white cop shooting an unarmed black man. Actually 15 black men have been shot by the CPD in the last 5 years. I talked to my relatives in Cincinatti and they say this isn't the first incident and this has been a long time coming. I understand cops shooting someone if the suspect starts shooting at them, but how is a person who's running away from you going to hurt you.

So every time someone gets shot by police there is going to be a riot? Cincy is 75% black, so 15 people getting shot in the last 5 years most of them are bound to be black because they make up the majority of the citizens. I'm not saying that the shooting is justified, but going out and starting a riot doesn't solve anything...it just makes it worse. Also there are citys(like Boston,Seattle etc etc)where 75% of the people are white, white men get shot(more than 15 in 5 years) and there are no riots there.
hothitz: I'm going to go out on a limb and say your stats are full of crap. Houston, Baltimore, Atlanta and Washington DC I believe have a greater percentage of black residents than Cincy and NONE of them is EVEN CLOSE to 75%. So I'm just going to ask you to shut your hole for a while.

EDIT, Okay, not Houston. :) but DC, ATL, and B-more are in the 60% range. Cincy sits at about 42%. Yes, I looked at the census data... *** This post was edited by 2Hostyl on 4/18/2001. ***
2hostyl, I was stating my opinion, I'm sorry if you don't agree. Everybody is entitled to there own opinion, if you don't agree with me fine, but don't come on here and insult me because you don't like what I say. I'm sure this thread will close soon now.

You aren't stating opinions, you were presenting facts. The percentages you gave aren't based on any real numbers, as 2H replied.

The issue isn't entirely race either. The guy had a warrant for such terrible crimes as speeding and driving without a seat belt. He was obviously dangerous, given his rap sheet. Wouldn't you shoot him if he was running?

I was very careful not to speed near PKI last weekend, since clearly their enforcement policy is rather severe.

78% of stats are made up on the spot.

Good....someone (Jeff) finally started talking about something other than race, even if it was sarcastic. But now I'll join in with the other posts. :) I think it's ridiculous for a riot to start just because a white cop shoots a black man. White cops don't just see black men running and decide to pick them off for no reason. And even if this was an exception, I think there would have been some sort of review without riots...but hey, what can some ruckus and mayhem hurt? I don't know the details, but I'm SURE there was a motive for what happened, and it wasn't racism. That stuff only happens here in Arkansas. That last one is just a joke, let's not take it any further...

And 2Hostyl, I agree that those facts are probably crap, but where did the "shut your hole" comment come from? Even as a "request" that was uncalled for IMO and I'm surprised it didn't draw more of a response from the moderator(s).

Dave, is that one of those 78%? :) *** This post was edited by StandUpFan on 4/18/2001. ***
I've heard that when you run from the cops that the consider that looking for trouble. If you run and they say stop and you don't then they will shoot whether you are unarmed or not. The bottom line is don't run from the cops.

I hardly call speeding and driving w/out a seat belt terrible crimes. I feel the policeman had no right to shoot the man. It's definetly a race issue. The policeman had serious issues.

Jeremy, I am sure you are old enough and mature enought to use more mature comments than that.

Looking for ideas... *** This post was edited by APForce on 4/19/2001. ***
Actually as the officer was chasing the suspect, the suspect went to tuck his shirt in. The cop thought he was pulling out a gun so he shot him because he felt his life was in danger. What if the suspect did have a gun? He would have shot the cop and killed him.

APForce... give me a little credit. That was sarcasm. Of course race had something to do with it. Doesn't everything in Cincinnati?

APForce: I'm a good nine years older than you are and yes I could use more mature comments than that, but I chose not to. If that offended anyone but who I was responding to,(Begin GWB-like statement) well I regret that you feel that way (end GWB-like statement).

Anyway, to return on topic, there is a much greater chance that rides in Cali WONT be running this summer cause of the electric problem than PKI being affected by the "Cincy riots". A news program showed that the governor of Oregon was conserving energy in the mansion (e.g. minimal lighting) because of the crunch. I do not envy the Cali thrillseekers during the HOT summer months.
