From someone who hasn't been to any of them, can you compare the following coaster events? For example, I'm interested in their attendance, energy of the crowds, park perks, "fun factor", and any other intangibles you can think of. Thanks.
Stark Raven Mad
Cedar Point's Coastermaina!
Timbersfest
CoasterbuzzCon
Knoebel's Phall Pfunfest
I can only speak for two of the above events from experience:
Timbersfest: I went last year and had one of the best times ever at a park. I went alone, but hooked up with some fellow enthusiasts. The ERT on Shivering Timbers was a blast, and ST is one coaster I can ride over and over and still feel like I haven't gotten enough. ST seems to get even faster once the sun goes down.
Coastbuzz Con: Held at PKI last year. Went with the hubby. We missed the walkback earlier, and spent the morning just enjoying a park we hadn't been to yet. I met up with some fellow CBuzzers, met some new ones, and enjoyed chatting with several at lunch. ERT was on Flight of Fear, Tomb Raider and the Beast. Again, you can't beat ERT with fellow enthusiasts. The energy level is so much higher. I plan to attend Timbersfest 2003
I made my first trip to SFGAm last August, and enjoyed the park. I plan to go to CBuzzcon at SFGAm not only because I enjoyed my previous trip to the park, but because I know I'll have a great time socializing with fellow cbuzzers.
I have to pick and choose my events because I can't afford all of them, nor can I take off that much time from work. for 2003, I am adding (already made the reservations) Stark Raven Mad. I have heard nothing but good things from this event in the past 3 years. Raven and Legend are top wooden coasters, and the park and the staff are highly praised.
I have yet to attend a coastermania at CP since it generally falls between or too close to other events, and as I'm a season pass holder at CP, I can ride the coasters pretty much whenever I want to.

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead
Stark Raven Mad - It's a blast! The Legend and Raven launch you out of your seat at night due to the maintenance team's devotion to making these coasters the best in the world. The staff at the park is also amazing! They are given the liberty to have fun and do what it takes to make both enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts have a great day at the park.
Cedar Point's Coastermaina! - I enjoyed it last year but it was extremely crowded. The morning (and evening) Mufflehead snacks on MF and Raptor were quite tasty! I am going back to the Point for a trip this year, but not for CMania.
Timbersfest - Haven't attended or visited MIAdv.
CoasterbuzzCon - Had a great time meeting other CBuzzers - I just need to work on syncronizing my watch for evening ERT - and not saying the water ride didn't get us wet...I am looking forward to this years' CBC at SFGAm (my home park)
Knoebel's Phall Pfunfest - Haven't attended or visited Knoebels

---Superman the ride...coming to a SF park near you soon...
I would say PPP, SRM, and Cmania are the three major events.
I have been to CbuzzCon, Cmania, and PPP.
PPP is definitely not to be missed, such an amazing park and amzing crazt atmosphere. I would expect SRM is almost exactly the same time of atmosphere. The parks are a lot alike after all.
CBuzzCon is a great small event to put names to faces and meet the people you talk to on here but never knew. Well worth it if you are hooked on the Buzz.
Cmania is huge, the biggest event there is. You get more Extended ride time then exclusive ride time but you still get plenty of rides and walk on maggie rides at 1:00 AM with the trims off can't be beat on few other roller coasters in the world.

Two friends, extremely in love with the same girl. She hates them both, but likes a third friend. (You think I'm advertising a reality show? That's my life!)
PPP - Phoenix Phall Phunfest....sorry I had to miss this year...:(. Knoebels is an awesome traditional park, we WILL be back. It's the perfect way to end the event schedule and say goodbye to your coasting buddies for the season.
TFest, never been, and considering the schedule, not likely anytime soon.
CoasterMania, a ton of people, a good event at the point, not a ridefest-type event...but the MUFFLEHEADS were quite tasty. I ate one on a jog towards Gemini...yum!
CBCon was awesome, really nice putting faces to alot of these people...:). Sadly, it doesn't look too good for this year...
SRM, the perfect way to begin the season...it will always be the "kick-off event", even if it's not the first park of the year, it's the official beginning of "our year". Kind of like New Year's for the gravity-enhanced....;)
I've been to SRM, PPP, And CoasterMania. I would have to say do not miss SRM. If I could only take one coaster trip, it would have to be that. The atmosphere is great. Even the employees seem to be having as much fun as us.
PPP follows a cloce second. Knoebels is a great park. I will deffinately try to camp next time. The campground looked like alot of fun.
I would say the CBCon should be pretty fun. The people I've met so far have been a blast. Plus I would assume it's a fairly small event compared to the others.
SRM 2X WOW THERE IS A INSANE MODE! And where else are the employees as enthusiastic as the guest? Woohooo!
Timbersfest. One of few times you will get to ride Timbers at it's best. Blue train at night= over one minute of airtime. Great event, good BBQ and did I say the most AIRTIME of any coaster on the planet?
PPP, I know Knoebels but I'm always out of vacation time by then :( I bet its a blast :)
Chuck, currently deciding what CC he will join for 2003

Without the chaindog, you'd never get up the lifthill...

Agreed Chaindog, I can easily see SRM 2003 having around 1,000 participants. But, if you are looking for a smaller HW event I would recommend the GOCC event in September. There was around 125 people at that event and they were giving QUAD rides on both legend and raven!
Not for long, SRM was small once too.
Chuck who thinks you just picked his new coaster club.

Is it about coasters or friends? I say both!
1. Timbersfests: I only rank this event #1 due to the insane night rides on Shivering Timbers. This ride takes on an entire new character at about 9 PM. The rides from 9-11 have been the best rides I've had on ANY coaster. Other than that the event isn't very good.
2. SRM - The two woodies are simply insane..the flat out intensity and darkness are quite cool. THe rest of the park is fun, and the people are very cool. A great day or two at HW.
3. PPP - Is VERY close to SRM. For overall experience PPP is #1, for coasters it is #3. The other rides at Knobels are GREAT though, like the bumper cars and flyters. Camping out at Camp RRC or anywhere for that matter, is a blast. The Haunted Mansion is awesome! This event is very hard to describe.
4. CoasterMania - Very big and kinda dry event. Lines are way long, hard to meet up with people and meal is not very good. You do get some nice ERTs, night time are good with less people. Morning ERTs suck. I would recommend visting the park on a weekday in May rather than going to CM though.
There are other events I'd put up high on this list too, like events at Lake Compounce the last 3 years with incredible rides on BoulderDash. Also, ACE Conventions..the 5-6 day one in June...are some of the best events I've attended.
