The Chiller's In-Line Twist

The Chiller, i feel, is arguably the most intense coaster out there. well, a coaster with a launch at least.

Goin reverse thru the cobra roll on Robin has some serious intense g's as well as a floating effect in the middle, really wierd.

I rode Mr. Freeze @ SFSL with the OTSR and I hated it, I'll like it now with the lapbars but Speed is the only steel coaster for me, Although I haven't ridden MF and the supermans I know Speed will always be my favorite, it is just something I can tell.

I went down to SFGAdv this year to ride Nitro, but it was the Chiller that really blew me away (especially Batman with the Top Hat). Unlike the B&M inline roll which seems smooth and steady, the Chiller really feels wild and totally out of control, especially backwards. And the NOISE, I mean, is there any ride (never mind coaster) as loud as that!?!

One reason about the inline on chiller not being used as much is maybe why Premier used it, not because other companies just haven't done it yet. It almost seems to me that the weird way Chiller's twists are is because of how fast the train takes them. Think about it-if there were no twists, just a hill, then there would be mega-intense negative g's, to the point where they would be painful. But with Chiller, notice how that the train hits level with the next section when you are completely upside down. By doing this, the G forces that are pushing against you are converted to positive G's instead of Negative G's. It works like this--if you take a glass of water, and jolt it up and down really fast, water will come out. However, if you spin it like it was a blade on a propeller and then raise it, it will stay in the cup and not come out because you converting negative G's to positive ones. All I'm trying to say is that the strange shape of Chiller's inline twists probably have more of a function than for thrills.

I was amazed when I first saw Chiller's in-line twist, for the reasons already mentioned by other people. I couldn't believe the speed through which the trains travel through it, both forward and backward, and indeed the sustained speed of both rides throughout. Also, the different shape of them; the fact that you travel backwards down and into the twist without rising up first. I was totally blown awy by the rides even though it had otsr at the time. I would imagine it would be a top 5 coaster now, oh how I would love to ride it now! Not to mention what a stunning ride it is to look at. Yeah, i'd say it's abit of an underrated ride. In Medusa, Nitro, BTR, Chiller, and upcoming SUF, for me, SFgadv is as good as any other single park's line up.

I think premier deserve a great deal of credit for their lapbar retrofits. Seeing the Chiller with otsr, it was the last ride I saw as a possibe candidate for a switch to lapbars, but premier found a way.

Yes, it's a shame that no more Premier shuttles have been built. One reason that springs to mind is the more powerful less costly alternative lauch mechanisms from Intamin and S&S. However, imo, the premier launched rides are different enough to other companies' launched rides so as not to be made redundant by the superior launching technology. I for one am hoping for more premier launched coasters.
