The Biggest Mistake Six Flags

I think there absoulutly biggest mistake ever is getting 2 billion in debt and then trying to get out of debt by adding rides and becoming 4 billion in debt.

Also taking parks like six flags magic mountains and adding 3 coasters in a year and not adding anything to some of there smaller parks. There smaller parks are suffering and need to be improved greatly. If they made improvements for the little parks rather than adding 3 coasters to one park they would have increased attendance for several parks makeing a lot more money.

I agree, Six Flags is not all that. I think SLFAKE said it all.

You are the Weakest Link, Goodbye.
Do you go to a park to ride rollercoasters or just took look at the themeing?
I go for both.

When Six flags bought SFDL I thought they would get all improvements and some more coasters. Instead they got rid of Nightmare and put in S:ROS. Superman isn't bad but THEY TOOK OUT NIGHTMARE! Now SF hasn't added anything to SFDL and only added to the bigger parks. That is a mistake because if they ad to the smaller parks they could make more money.

Why are you dissapointed they took out Nightmare? Sure its one less coaster, but it HAD to go... you must not realize that 95% of the people hated it... you should of heard some responses to the park survey about that ride...

I am glad its gone, it shouldn't have been there in the first place IMO.

How come Six Flags is adding a lot into SFMW when it is pretty new and the only compition it has is PGA? (I'm not complaining because SFMW is my home park).

Ok, that may/may not be a problem...

But even for the average park goer who may go out of town on vacation, and for one of those days... visit the local park in the area. The thing is, the park may very well likely be a Six Flags owned theme park, and well...
at that park, there will probably be at LEAST one rollercoaster that is already at your own home park.

That's the problem we run into.
I don't go camping & vacationing just for coasters (w/ the fine exception of Cedar Point). But where I do go, there is a park nearby which I visit yearly. The problem is that it is owned by Six Flags, and they have coasters there that are already at my home park. Just in a different spot with slightly different themeing (ie: trees, different queue line, etc).

I wouldn't mind the clone if there were some more noticable differences like the colors, completely different theme, or just something that makes it a different experience.

But for the most part... cloning is a bad thing. It's a cheap way of getting a new coaster fast when you got flat land for expansion. However, it doesn't set your park from others as having an original world-class coaster...

AND

With that in mind... I highly doubt you'll be finding clones on the top 10 to 25 list of best coasters by anybody's polls (Park World magazine, Amusement Today awards... etc)!!
Point one: Six Flags are not the only parks that clone coasters. Paramount and Cedar Fair do too, maybe not as much as Six Flags, but Six Flags have many more parks. Take a look at Wild Adventures: a boomerbang, Vekoma SLC (Seriously Lame Coaster), and a cloned Wild Mouse. Plus their 3 junior coasters are probably clones as well. I felt very "Cheetered" when I went there.

Point two: a theme/amusement park is a business.
Theming rides may make the overall experience more enjoyable, but the general public are more likely to visit a park with six good unthemed coasters over a park with three good themed coasters.

Also, I flew over SFEG when I was leaving Denver, and it looked desperate! Glad I didn't go.

May/June 2001 - 16 parks in 18 days!!!
Elitchs moved to the new location before 6 Flags bought them. I do not like the park but 6 Flags has added and changed a few things to try to improve the park. But it was to far LAME to save
I'm going to resist the temptation of saying that Six Flags Elitch Gardens sucks. I went yesterday and I was somewhat disappointed. I want to reserve judgement on it because I feel like my opinions of parks are somewhat tainted. I grew up and live in Michigan and I am attending the Air Force Academy now in Colorado Springs. Living in Michigan, I grew up with Cedar Point. I know everyone praises Cedar Point constantly but it truely is a superior park and I had not noticed it as such until I started visiting other parks around the country. I guess you could say I've been spoiled fairly early in my career. Elitch's was terribly disappointing. Coasters running one train (do you know how frustrating it is to walk all the way up to the stairs to the station and still wait almost 45 minutes to ride?), flat rides and even some coasters with 1 or 2 crew members, and SEVERAL rides and booths that wern't even operating. Even some of their better flat rides were closed. I know it's somewhat early in the season, but on the same note, it's almost June and I wouldn't expect such a lack in park activity this close to the peak season.

On a positive note, I enjoyed their roller coasters. Especially the Mind Eraser, until I realized it was the exact same ride as Top Gun at Paramount Canada's Wonderland. I'm tired of those copy cat coasters too! That means that before I even walked into the gate, I had already experience 66.7% of their roller coaster fleet. Almost no reason to even go.

Actually, the general public is more likely to visit a park that offers what they want, when they want, at a price that they want. Coaster enthusiasts would probably choose a 6-coaster park over a 3-coaster park. But the GP may be looking for a park that offers lots of kids rides (if they have kids) or good shows (if they have ride-averse family members) or beautiful landscaping (if garden obsessed grandma is going along) or Mickey Mouse/Snoopy/Popeye/Bugs Bunny (depending on what cartoons the toddlers are obsessed with). It's safe to say that the average parkgoing family, when making their decision, does not say. "Hey, let' sadd up how many roller coasters Busch Gardens or SF America has so we can see where to go..." More likely they're looking at which park they went last year and had fun at, or which park Aunt Jane lives near.

Just curious, was that Twister II running with just one train? Because Mind Eraser usually runs with two trains and of course Boomerang and Sidewinder have just one train.

Anyway, I really hate that when Twister II runs just one train. That is probably mt number one pet peeve about the park.

With regards to SFEG, according to www.thetripreport.com, the general public in Denver really embraces the park. They think it has so many coasters that even go upside down. When there aren't many coasters in the area, people don't know any better. If people in the area like the park and are willing to pay to visit, why is it a bad move? Maybe it isn't worth an enthusiast's time, but if it makes money from the GP, it's all good.

Well my aunt Jane lives near Lightwater Valley in the UK, and I wouldn't go there again if it was the last park on Earth!

I live about 45 min from SFEG I go to it because its better then no coasters at all. The park is lame to say the least but a bad day at SGFE is better then a day with out any coasters at all
