That elusive spinning mouse

Just wondering if anyone had any idea why this type of coaster hasn't become more popular. It's been available for years, but so far there are very few installations. Do those of you who have rode one consider them to be a fun ride? If so, what's the holdup? There aren't any on the west coast, which makes me wonder...

Perhaps they can be found at fairs (though sadly none in the NW), so maybe they're too familiar? Or is it that a lot of parks have mice already and don't want more? I know about Lagoon's, but that's going to be the closest!

Obviously I've become bored and resentful this past winter;)

"Alias" rocks!

The only ones I've ridden are both Kennywoods Exterminator and Amusements of America's at Ohio State Fair. Both are Reverchon.

I got to say, I loved this ride. what made Ohio States better than Kennywoods was it was only a 5 minute wait. Kennywoods sometimes gets over a hour.

Chuck, Build more spinnie mice dang it!

It is my personal belief that Lesourdsville Lake is closed for 2003. I'll let you know if anything is announced.

Well, there's the one in Myrtle Beach, the one that WAS at Miracle Strip, and the pair at Disney...Kennywood's is the only one I've ridden though...saw the one at MSAP test, even got pics of it.....

Mice aren't my favorite genre, but are good family coasters...

Would you just LOOK at what you've done to CoasterBuzz - you're going to have to clean it up ;)

I love spinning mice. The one I found unique was in Japan by Mohrer-Sohne, it didn't always freely rotate, but rather you went through the hairpins and the way your body was facing never changed! A VERY unique feeling, much different than the Reverchron variety. I'm sorry there isn't one over here.

I rode the pair at Disney's Animal Kingdom and I really suffered a severe case of anticipointment. I was expecting it to be as good as a standard mouse which it wasnt, and I thought the spinning would be really scary which it wasnt. I was expecting to be plastered to the back of the car like on a tilt a whirl and I wasnt. The Wild Mouse I rode at Little A-Merrick-A was so much more exciting.

Kick the Sky, I have not been on a spinning mouse but I imagine that the Disney model was designed less intense then a normal model. Either way I cannot wait to get on one.

The only spinning mouse I have been on is the Exterminator at Kennywood, and I LOVED it! It's much more intense if you can ride with two or three other people. The more weight the more insane the spins are! I would love to see more of the Reverchon spinning mouseys.... They ROCK!

If the spinning is anything like a tilt-o-whirl I know I'd love it.

i was on this really good one that i think was somewhere in new jersey, i think it was Busch Gardens, but it might have been the SF in jersey

(it was at least 3 or 4 years ago so I dont remember well)

Last year on the ECO tour, we encountered a few spinning mouses. The one to remember was at Blackpool on the pier. After recieving a tip that if you hand the operator a few pounds, he will pull the pin. After the pin is pulled, the car will be free to spin the entire course. It was pretty exciting spinning and ending up backwards going down the first drop! Well for me it was exciting, I cant speak for anyone else.
Colin, I don't think it was either of those, because BGW's mouse doesn't spin and SFGadv doesn't have a mouse at all. Maybe it was Crazy Mouse at Steel Pier?

If at first don't succeed, find out if the loser gets anything.

Reverchon spinning mice are far more common in Europe than the USA. I've ridden at least five that I can think of off the top of my head:

- Amusements of America @ Ohio State Fair
- Blackpool South Pier
- Lightwater Valley
- Wm Bird Ltd @ Funderland Dublin
- Fantasy Island Skegness

Come to Europe and be amazed. ;)

We recently got a dueling spinning mouse by Maurer Söhne at Phantasialand.
Other parks have Maurer Söhne mice too or the slighty more normal version by Reverchon. You can find some at funfairs too.

However, regular wild mouse coasters are more frequent. Europa-Park even has one with a vertical lifthill. (like an elevator)

Lagoon will be the first american park to have a Maurer-Söhne spinning coaster. It'll be a 2000 model (the same that you can find in european fairs)

I've been on Exterminator at Kennywood and Primeval Whirl at Animal Kingdom. Mouse coasters just don't do it for me (I've been on a half-dozen and never walked away satisfied -- well, I enjoyed the Idlewild one) -- but the spinning mouse coasters do.

You never get the fierce Tilt-a-Whirl spin action. Kennywood felt more intense than Disney's, though maybe that was because it was inside a show building in near-dark conditions. Disney's version is still fun, though the ride takes too long before the cars unlock the spinning mechanisms so you can enjoy the last leg of the course.

Is Mullohund Madness still open at Disney's California Adventure? I remember when it first opened they had to shut it down right away cuz 2 many people were having back and neck probs or something along the lines of that???

Surfs up in Hollister, CA! Later Dudes...

I have got to disagree with you The Exterminator can give you that Tilt-a-Whirl action, you just have to plan. If you can get 3-4 large adults on one, or if not stagger your weight (lightest person on one side, middle person(s) in the middle and heaviest person on the other side). I absoultly assure you you will walk off with a headache from the spining it is amazing!

Hollister, there were indeed problems with MM at DCA, but it never had spinning cars.

The west also needs a B&M flyer, but who knows when that'll happen. With all the parks in So CA, you'd think there would be one by now, but oh well. At least Sea World is building a water coaster, another type that the west currently lacks.

I agree touchdown. When I went to KW last June, I rode Exterminator many times, I loved it, but the best ride was when I rode it with a father and his son. The son went to the far side and the dad and I were on the other...We spun very fast and when I exited the ride, I was walking like I was drunk, I was so dizzy. ;)

Ah yes, you can't beat those extra spinning rides. I honestly love the Exterminator, it's by far my favorite wild mouse. I'm not sure if I'd feel the same way if it were outdoors though, becasue the fact that you can't see where you're going really adds to the disorientation that the spinning already provides.
