I was visiting SFMM a couple of days ago and i see people playing all of those carny games. I usually laugh when i see people blow fifty bucks for a toy that isn't worth five. But i started to realize that this is where they make a ton of thier money. And that money pays for our coasters every year. So i just wanted to say, thank you people for blowing your money on carny games!! Ya'lll agree?

Woah, never realized that, I'm going Tuesday and I'm definately going to play the very last game in the carney area where you have to move the little thing at the bottom to catch the ball and win a prize. I love that game.

No, carny games pay for prizes, carny prizes, and carny pay checks. Admissions and Souvenirs usually pay for coasters.
those carny prizes are worth a dollar maybe. then it's like two dollars for one play. i don't believe that they don't make a ton of money off of that. I see people lining up for those, and 90% of the time they got nothing.

this has nothing to do with parks, but it has a lot to do with carnies,When i went to ozzfest, i played a baloon popping game, and he said that there was a prize behind every baloon, and that some prizes are tickets to a concert. So i played, for 5 bucks, and popped a baloon, and guess what?! No prize behind it! And all he said was, "oh well, guess i forgot that one, here, take a free cd sampler"

That sucks...when I went, I tried to eat as little as possible, seeing as how a slice of pizza and a soft pretzl were $4.00. I made sure I stayed away from the carny games.
Disturbed was still on the 2nd stage when I went to Ozzfest. Moshing to them is fun...almost as fun as riding coasters. Yeah that's right, I said it, trying to avoid getting trampled in "The Pit" is almost as fun as riding coasters. :)
I feel quite sorry for the staffer's at sfa who work the midway games, they have to come up with some clever ways even to the point of begging you to play thier games to get you to part with your hard earned cash.it's actually quite fun to watch them though.
Well, I'll have you know I've won those games without wasting a lot of money. Only 10 bucks total on 2 games. I got a Scobby Doo and alien guy.

So $5 a toy...Might have been cheaper to go to the gift shop and bought yourself something nice...

I was at PCW and my first play at the game that you spray water at the target I won a Stuffed Animal. People don't always lose at these games.

Those "toys" actually cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 cents. I laugh everytime I enter a park early and I see a pick-up w/ bags and bags of stuffed animals in the back. Moshing is good. Ozzfest stuff isn't my kind of music, but moshing is good non the less.

Sure people win, but was your little stuffed animal worth 2$ anyway this is about how parks can make so much money off of these, then they make coasters for us.

The toys are worth 20 cents, but remember, if you go into one of the stores, they sell them to you for 20 bucks. When you play a game, they hope you lose until you have at least wasted the price of what you would pay for in a shop.
So I saved 30 bucks by playing the games.

To me, the games are part of the experience. I rarely play them, although Dutchman's son likes them. I note that some of the Del Mar (San Diego County) Fair games have policies that every child (I'm guessing under 12) takes home a prize no matter what.
Yeah, the prizes are so inexpensive that they'd make money even if everyone won a prize all the time ... but it's still exciting to win ... and it's the adrenaline rush that counts!
