Has it/will it open(ed) this season?

It looks like an awsome ride but has it opened this year, and if it hasnt does anyone know when it will. If its because then new trains, why dont they go back to the old trains?

Nope, its not open yet. Earlier this year I heard rumor that it would be open in June at the absolute earliest. Still no word as of right now, as far as I know.

Is AstroWorld the scrub park of the Six Flags chains? It doesnt really have any high class rides, and most of them are used...

Yup. It's the underdog of the Six Flags Texas area.

It might be the least respected of the Texas parks but it's also the one I want to visit the most...they have *3* Schwarzkopf coasters once Texas Tornado/Thriller is back up and running again which is quite impressive in my book :-)

Its not a quality park as Six Flags Over Texas, its too cramped and they have no spectacular rides, the Serial Thrillers is OK, its really bumpy and not as good as Batman

AW is a good park...Serial Thriller is by far not the best ride in the park, it sucks. There's about 4 good rides there and then a few more that I ride for fun. Neither one of those categories includes Serial Thriller. You can't forget about Ultra Twister, Viper, Texas Tornado, Greezed LIghtnin, and Texas Cyclone. Those are all great coasters and then we have the best drop ride in Texas, too.

It's pretty sad that such a great looking coaster is just wasted by Six Flag's laziness to get it back up and running. Maybe there is something wrong with it that we don't know about. If I ever go, I hope they have this open, because it looks like their best coaster.

Also I looked at a pic of it and it had OTSR's is it still that way?

The ride was fitted with OTSR's for an unknown reason, my guess is as good as anyone elses, but the accordian restraints that were on the trains would push down on you while you were in the loops and the drop, so it would compress your spine and make the rest of your day at the park suck. At the end of the 2000 season, the trains were sent off to Wieland and the trains had OTSR's installed. After the park opened for the 2001 season, the ride was only open a few hours due to how Wieland designed the OTSR's, which think about having your head slammed between molded plastic, its not the softest thing in the world. As of this date, the park is trying to get the restraints fixed to a point where the ride can reopen.

SFGA2001-Six Flag's Laziness? This is not just against you, but also against all those who bash SF day in and day out. I don't think any of us know exactly why Texas Tornado is down right now, but I don't think it is because the people at SFAW are sitting on their a***s thinking 'hey! lets not work at all on TT just to make life idfficult for the patrons!' Most likely they are making a very careful decision about how they refurbish the trains, based on the disaster they had last time. Sure its been inconvenient, but just because it is closed doens't mean that SF doesn;t want it to open. SF is in the business of entertainment, and they try to keep that entertainment as cheap as possible while also emplying thousands of ride ops, mechanics, and all of the other employees they hire for overy 20 parks. In addition to this, they attempt to add riddes to thier parks, ven though I will admit that perhaps some parks get rejected. So please, everyone, stop bashing the six flags parks for trying to do their jobs as best as they can.

Why did they name two of their coasters the same name? Texas Cyclone and Texas Tornado...is there a difference? Doesn't matter much to me, just find it kind of strange.

B&M Tycoon, just go to Carowinds where everything starts with Carolina this, that, or another. Texans are also extremely proud of their state, and I can say I feel the same after spending a week there. Sure, there's the things to be embarrassed about: a) the Mexicans in San Antonio, who were hard to tell apart from some of the ACE members on the Steel Eel walk-back b) The execution rate. When an anchor comes on the tv and says with a straight face, "John Doe will be the 13th person executed in the state THIS year, you know criminals must be incredibly stupid. "Don't Mess With Texas" is not only their motto, it's also prominently featured on road signs every five miles or so on our journey to San Antonio, and now on the back of my car:) c) the multiple billboards we saw for vasectomy reversals when we were traveling between cities. The divorce rate must be sky-high for people to want to have kids that badly with their new wives. d) The concealed handgun law. Why do you think everyone is so nice in Texas? Because they'd like to make it through another day. Texas, love or leave it.

Try the themepark diet now! Just walk vigorously around large parks for a week. "It really works!", says I-Fan who lost 1 inch off his waist in a week while in Texas.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this. Are you suggesting that a State should be embarrassed because hispanics live there?
