Ten Things Missed from Disneyland

Fun to read article that appeared on MSN about former attractions in Disneyland that were removed or replaced. Some of us more mature posters might remember a few of these attractions. Some seem corny now or dull or downright politically incorrect. But in their day they were beyond state of the art. A few might rightfully be missed.

Rocket to Mars is the most missed IMHO because it was replaced with a pizza place... seriously, a pizza place?

Great Moments With Mr. Lincon's coming back, they just put a screen infront of him for the 50th anniversary stuff.

Free roaming characters are still there...

Walt himself said he never wanted Disneyland to be a museum. Disney-fans may whine about the demise of certain attracions but I doubt Walt, were he still alive, care one bit.

The general idea of change and replacing of attractions and upgrading and evolving he'd be happy with, it's just the *quality* of said changes (and the crappy ones have been discussed ad naseum by resident Disney geeks more knowledgeable than myself) that would have Walt/Walt's head spinning in his coffin/cryogenic freezer. *** Edited 8/24/2007 2:25:16 AM UTC by matt.***

Hey Mamoosh,

In the not to distant past, Disneyland was going downhill. I know fans whine about change, but I think there were REAL problems before. Reasons for fans to bitch.

Went to Disneyland about 2 months back, and I loved it! There were several improvements from just 10 months ago. I wanted to write a trip report, just on the improved maintenance, but got to busy. Now its been to long I can't remember the details.

The Haunted Mansion had that claw that moves around in a circle, well, after a gazzilion years somone SLIGHTLY changed the angle of the lighting, and the effect is PERFECT now. The flying witch in the ball effect has been modified to make a flaw in the effect concealed. The whole rest of the ride had minor improvements everywhere that I noticed.

Space Mountain is SO much better as SPACE themed. I didn't like the rock'n'Roll show. I mean, I like the idea of a rock'n coaster, but ADD the coaster, don't just mess up a good thing.

The silly Jungle Cruise had a few nice updates. And, the guns are back! It is great that PC didn't win. Guns ARE part of the real world in remote locations. I was really surprised by the update near the end of the ride that hasn't yet been mentioned here on CBuzz.

Noticed that no one on CBuzz has reported the changes on BTMRR. There is an obvious change to the train. Also, my last trip had the splash down working better then it had in many past trips.

The Canoes were staffed, and people still ride despite having to power it themselves. Not certain, but think we actually beat the Mark Twain around the circuit.

The Autopia cars have been upgraded, back to gasoline monsters. The track had a few nice fun additions to it.

Pirates of the Caribbian (sp?) had several small effects fixed. The addition of Jack Sparrow was actually well done. And, unless I'm mistaken, one of the old NON-PC pirate chasing dame scene was restored.

Finding Nemo was NEAT. Almost the ENTIRE first two hours of people entering the park went to this attraction. This is what Disney would want with his park.

Disney would have been horrified at the remodel of Tomorrowland. What I didn't realize is that the Rocket Jet structure wasn't removed! The cars have been removed, but that silly looking thing IS the old ride core.

Have to say, Indiana Jones, sucked. The ride is so far tuned down, and the lights are now to bright, and some effects I remembered, I didn't see. The bridge effect was TOTALLY ruined by the currrent lighting.

So, I miss some of the good things Disney did in the past. I hope that the current trend makes the park the best it has ever been, and the fans stop having reason to whine.

Um...Sprig. I live about 20 miles from Disneyland. I've visited annually since 1965. I'm well aware of the ups and down the park has had, lol.
I always thought House of the Future looked cool because I like seeing what people thought the future would be like in the 1950's. Even back to a few years ago, Disney Channel used to have some interesting shows on at night, that showed these ideas (like one that had a car that drove itself while the family ate a meal in the backseat).

I disagree about the article's opinion with the free roaming characters. An organized line makes it much easier, otherwise you have every parent pushing their kid to the front and then people argue about whose kid was next. The autograph books have been around for over 20 years at least. Plus, you can always go to the dollar store before your trip to get the same type of book (without Mickey on the cover of course), rather than spend $6 - $7 for one in the parks.

Are you talking about the piranhas? If so, I mentioned those in my trip report. "The piranha on Jungle Cruise scared the hell out of me, but were wicked cool. I wish they had those in Florida."

I am suprised nobody has brought up 10.000 leagues under the sea ride yet. I know it was just replaced by nemos sub ride, but I know the original ride was very popular.

I wish disneyworld would bring the ride back.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
