Teen job market down, seasonal amusement parks get their picks

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

The teen job market is the smallest it has been in 37 years, and amusement parks and other businesses that typically hire teens are retaining higher-quality kids. Wild Waves and Enchanted Village is among those reaping the benefits.

I guess that's a good news/bad news story. Good news for guests, bad news for parents.

Well I for one am sick of parks being understaffed, There simply is no reason for it. Expecially having top rides closed due to understaffing while every soda stand and game is going.

It's not the job situation doing this, It;s parks being as cheap as possible and most people aren't willing to work for minimum wage when the fast food joints pay twice that.

Uh... the article just said they have no problem filling the jobs, and can make more careful choices.

This is different from when I was a ride operator. Back then, Great America held job fairs at all the local high schools. Heck, if they were desparate enough to hire me year after year...

And then, end of season when all the college kids went back to school, we hired some very "interesting" people to say the least.

But it sounds like they are filling the jobs. There's a topic right now over on GTTP in the employee forum indicating that people are quitting because they can't get enough hours. Heck people are even saying that SFWoA has adequate staffing this year.
