A 14-year-old girl fell 25 feet from the Sky Ride at Six Flags Great Escape in upstate New York, but she wasn't seriously injured, authorities said.

Well, of course I don't expect anybody to know it verbatim, but I think I may have quoted that section before. I also remember the discussion when that section was written. The point is, the industry expects a 14-year-old to be mature enough to serve as a "supervising companion" to a younger kid, and apparently the parents also think this kid can handle herself in an amusement park.

Back in 2009, when I worked in a park, my general manager had me amend my manuals changing accompanied by an adult to supervising companion 14 years or older. When I saw this story, I thought "Well, she's old enough to be a supervising companion". It was a while ago but I remember him telling me it had something to do with boy scouts or something and that the age of a babysitter being 14.
