Tears for Fears

I personally don't like coasters that hurt, but I know some of you do. So, how many of you think getting bashed on coasters is fun?

I have ridden plenty of coasters that hurt, but I have never been bashed by one lol! Some rough coasters are fun to me, Viper at SFMM is one that I like alot. Thankfully, the only coaster I would never ride again is closed for good(Windjammer).

Unforgettable!!!
I like most coasters.
The only coaster I have a hard time enjoying is the Mean Streak.
Aside from that coaster I've never had a problem riding other coasters.
It depends on the bashing it delivers. I like a woodie to throw me from one side of the seat to the other then pop me up in the air bashing off the car due to the layout of the ride. Ones that hurt due to lack on matainance suck. Hercules is a good example of a bad hurt you might as well pay someone to pound a jackhammer on your spine for a few minutes instead. Also on air time coaster on bunny hops the cars hit with a thudd thats kinda sucks too.
I think Outer Limits sucks you might as well sparr with Tyson or another boxer. I do (did) like the Steel Phantom though (RIP):( Sure climbing up to the loop was a bit rough but I didn't mind it. I guess it all depends on the rider.

I'm no fan of head injuries, but there are coaster defenders on this site who get very irate at subjects like this. ("It's supposed to hurt" "all coasters are good" "you guys shouldn't bash any coasters" etc.) Everytime anyone posts that a coaster may be rough or injurious they come screaming, sometimes about coasters they've never even ridden!

I've actually gotten headaches from both OL:FOF and JOKER'S JINX. Others, like 80s steel loopers can be rough and knock you around but I don't hate them for it. (I do wish the OTSR could be re-designed, though!)Woodies can be rough on you, but my solution with those that are bonebreakers is to pull foward off the seat.

I will give ALL coasters the benefit of the doubt, but the few that really hurt are on my "avoid next time" short list.

Pain = No Fun.

I expect a little bashing on woodies and, sometimes, even on steel but too much is not fun. My all time worst was Thunderbolt at KW. I was thrown so hard that I felt a pop in my chest that hurt for days. Mean Streak (CP) is right behind. At SFGAm, I won't ride Shockwave anymore. Every time I get off I have a terrible headache. And personally I'm glad to see Steel Phantom (KW) go. Another headache producer.

I agree with FloridaFlyer. I give every coaster the benefit of the doubt but more than a couple of bashings, and it's off limits.
that is the whole fun of coasters. it gives u a good bang here and there. don't get me wrong- but the only ones i like getting bashed around on are the wooden coasters like the Villain and Thunderbolt. i don't like getting banged up on steel roller coasters
Headbanging hurts, but I try to not let it ruin the ride. I still like rides like Shockwave and Iron Wolf at SFGAm. The one ride I would have to be talked into going on again ( money might help ;) ) is Corkscrew at CP. It was too short of a ride for all the pain.

I don't discriminate I love them all!!! Even the really rough ones!
The first time I rode the Mantis, my head started to ricochet(sp?) between the horsecollar like crazy and I thought it only made the ride better. There's nothing wrong with getting beaten around on a coaster. In fact, I think that a coaster without a certain level of hurting just isn't a coaster. The Steel Phantom is my favorite steel coaster just because it knocks you around and gives you a feeling of being totaly at it's mercy. Some people hate the ride for that, but that's what I like best about coasters(besides airtime).

So are you saying that you enjoy headaches?

I remember yelling in pain and the Steel Phantom a couple years ago but I still loved it. This year it seemed very smooth to me though.

The Thunderbolt at Kennywood has gotten a rough spot after the second hill after the lift but I think it adds to the ride.

When I rode Magnum last year it was very smooth but this year it was another story. I just couldnt wait to get off the ride. It was in my top ten list last year but this year it went to my worst 10 list.
Hmmmm. Why was it so easy to predict how the responses would run? (Hint: we've had this topic before.)

Sorry I did not know we had this topic before!

Oh no, you're fine, Mr. Peanut! I just knew that we'd get the "i love all coasters" type responses!

It's funny, as I get older, I find I enjoy comfort more and more. I'm amazed, even from year to year, what I'm not willing to withstand anymore. Summer 1999 I loved Steel Phantom and Magnum, however this year, perhaps because of all the super-smooth new gypers (or gigas, whatever), I find that I'm a little less tolerant. So, I find myself really enjoying Lightning Racer and Boulder Dash, S:ROS and Millenium. But then, and here comes the ugly double standard, you get me to Coney Island and I'll ride the Cyclone all day without once considering the buising I'm getting. I guess it's pretty subjective. Probably my least favorite feel (come on, I have to voice my opinion on this at least once)is the head-banging OTSRs. I won't actually mention Outer Limits and Ninja at SFOG, but...
Jason

I don't mid a little roughness. Alot, will probably make me think twice about ridding again. Though, it would hrlp it OSTR's could be redesigned and if parks took better care of the wheeles on the trains, as bad whelles or wheel fittings can make a ride very rough, re. BKF.

Six Flags America IS a Six Flags park!
i dont care as long as
a. the ride has no OTSR
b. it doesnt sacrifice the total ride experience

it is interesting that most people will answer this depending on when they were born, older patrons tend to like the woodies better... a new schooler like my self says steel all the way
Well.. getting shaken around on the predator (sfdl) is one thing...! (thats fun!)

But hitting your hand on a support at well over 50 MPH on Superman is not (and that HAS happened to me...)

SO I guess I kinda like pain, but not "super" pain, and things that shouldnt happen...

hurts just to think about it again :-\

Explain to me why my 5 year old daughter rode the Demon at SFGAm which has OTSRs and she did not get banged at all? She walked off this ride with a BIG smile on her face. What I am trying to say is it just depends on the ride and the Demon is one of those older Arrow loopers that has aged gracefully.
