Tallest/Fastest Inverted Coaster

Mean Streak came in 33rd this year out of the top 50 woodies.
Yes I would love to see an invert that is 200+ feet. Alpengeist is very cool, I consider that to be the definite "tallest and fastest" coaster, because it's a full-circuit coaster, and reaches that height. While Wicked Twister (i do consider those to be coasters) may be tall, it doesn't reach that extreme height. You follow?

I'm waiting for Intamin to build another full-circuit inverted launched coaster (like Volcano: The Blast Coaster) at PKD...that would be cool!

Haha no I'm not giving Patrick the finger

I was just staing what CP tends to do...wait and see how a new concept turns out elsewhere before investing in a bigger, faster, taller, longer, etc.. version. More times than not, the CP-sized version is inferior to the original. I'm all for making rides last longer. As of late though, the trend seems to be make them tall and fast, but really short. I'd rather have a great 100-ft tall coaster with a 2-minute ride time than a 450-ft coaster with a 15 second ride time.

They are building what they know how to sell. If they built an insanely great woodie like Avalanche, they would have a hard time selling it, BUT I'm confident the crowds would eat it up once they tried it. Everytime I've been to a park for a brand new woodie, that was exceptionally good, I hear the "normal" people commenting how great it is and how surprised they are a wooden coaster could be that good. CP can't really grow their attendance all that much anymore, so why waste big money on a big attraction when they can focus on maintaining that "peaked" attendance by keeping people happy with much smaller investments such as a quality ride like Avalanche?

Like the flume dilema....they need a new flume, but how are they gonna sell it? Just make it a great ride. Don't worry about records. If it's a quality ride, people will enjoy it and be more likely to return to the park.

I would like to see an invert that does something other that flip me upside-down over and over again.

AV - Don't worry about records?! Next time I see you, Matt, I'm ripping up your coaster club membership cards! SHEESH! ;)

jgrocket85 - I hate all of Cedar Point because the last two coasters they've built haven't been my thing? That's makes as much sense as saying Brad Pitt isn't hot because he has a small....

That's ok, Matthew. I've been disqualified many times already. :)

Don't playa hate! :)

I enjoy Cedar Point...quite a bit actually. It just takes a lot of motivation to get me there, and there are many, MANY other places I'd rather visit. But if I lived within 3 hours of it, I'm sure I'd go several times each season.

Wow, yet another topic has evolved into a Cedar Point Is Overated thread. :) *** Edited 3/23/2006 3:26:43 AM UTC by Acoustic Viscosity***

Is this topic about Inverts or is CP bashing?

WT's original design speed was 72, but after problems its first year, they slowed it down. For a while after that they actually changed the top speed on CP's website to 70. Now it is back to 72, but I still don't think it goes that fast. Maybe it does. Anyway, my point is that CP could not have consistently claimed a speed record for it. They did claim the biggest Impulse, but after their issues with S:TE, I think they probably did not want to compare the height to a full circuit.

As for the rest of this thread, I really do hope that CP builds some turns since Knoebels will only be running one sled any day you can POP. Wups, did I take a undeserved cheap shot at some park? Imagine that. Serves them right for building what other people want instead of checking with me first.

^^^^^That's just it though. Since Knoebels are basically building the Turns from scratch, and not buying a cookie cutter design from an outside firm; Then they will more than likely be the people that CP, or any other park calls on to build them such a ride in the future.

You have to buy the ride from the people who have the know how, and there will be only one company with the know how, after Knoebels have completed this project. I personally think that they will be more focused on their own park, then worrying about what other people want.

"Is this topic about Inverts or is CP bashing"?

Both. ;)

All "...est" threads lead to Cedar Point. :)

Fun said:The question I have, is why doesn't Cedar Point advertise or promote the fact that (Wicked Twister) is at the top of the ranks for inverted coasters.

I just received my CP propaganda yesterday, and they promote Wicked Twister as one of their four roller coasters over 200 feet. This is a unique feature of CP, definitely worth promoting. I don't think that marketing the tallest and fastest invert would have any effect.

For those who are citing poll results, what polls are you referring to?

Or more specifically, if it's not Mitch's poll, why should we care?

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

And why should we care if it is Mitch's poll? I don't need a poll to tell me what a good roller coaster is. I decide that for myself.
ok i don't know why everyone is hating on cp. i loved dragster and mf, and i can't think of anything even close to as good. wicked twister was pretty cool too.

plus, cp hasn't done what other parks done (see six flags with kingda ka) and made something a little higher/faster, they broke barriers and demolished the records of other coasters. Magnum was the first 200-footer, MF the first 300-footer, TTD the first 400. and no other coasters were even close to it (maybe magnum) at the time.

I'm certainly not "hating" on CP. I happen to like the park. I just think their last few coaster additions fed their ego more than providing something that will be treasured 15 or 20 years from now. Gemini, Magnum and Raptor will be favorites of mine as long as they stand. I could care less about Wicked Twister or TTD, and they're just a few years old. The park is also stating to look a bit cluttered and suffer from capacity issues that never plauged them before. The lines for the 3 Intamins are nightmares imo.

Hopefully, they will not buy into the 500ft crap and get back to what made their coaster choices so special. *** Edited 3/25/2006 6:22:55 AM UTC by DWeaver***

I still love it. I couldn't find one bit of trash on the ground the whole 4 days I went there. I think its worth the lines (although they definitely are long).

Not saying you should care about any poll, but if you are going to care about one (which clearly some people do) then at least care about one that's accurate. :-P

^ Pre-cisely...

For instance, Hulk isn't even the best coaster in the PARK, much less in the state, or the nation. But since Hulk *is* in FL, perhaps the ballots were confusing? :)

Before *the Twisted incident*, WT was as good as or perhaps a LITTLE bit better than V2 at SFGAm...since then, I think V2 is the SLIGHTLY *quicker* ride, launch-wise...

Of course, I'm always a LITTLE disappointed that V:TBC didn't do MORE things, use up the energy of the launches with some INTERESTING trackwork - cause that really SHOULD be..."THE launched invert".
