Suspended Stand-up Coaster

There is at least prototype drawings on the boards for them. I remember a person posting a link (which I went to and saw) diagrams for a suspended steel stand up coaster. But I do not remember the site URL, it has been a year or so.
I don't think that would be to plesant for the male riders.
No, stand-ups definitely don't bother that region as much as it bothers the forces it exerts on your feet and legs. Be logical about this. It will take a lot more speed to get Stand-up inverted trains over a loop than though a normal loop, therefore, more forces would be released. Why do you think they never let suspended coasters loop? It wouldn't be as hard as SUI, but they didn't try to do it then and after inverts came along, there wasn't a need. Most likely one won't be made anytime soon, because there really isn't a need or demand for that type. There hasn't even been a normal stand-up built since 1998.

What makes you think that the train would have to travel at a faster speed. It would be just about the same weight as a regular stand up coaster. It wouldnt have to exert more forces either. There wouldnt really be any difference between a stand-up and an inverted stand-up. There is only one difference and thats if you are above or below the track.

I Hope this ONLY a rumor. I M O . I Feel Stand up coasters are the worst Gimmicky coaster there is.
again this my personal option. I'd Chose BKF over mantis any day.
Has anybody considered a standup suspended? Not to be confused with an inverted, where you are held in a fixed position below the track. On a suspended, like Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens, you swing from side to side. There would be no inversions, except maybe a highly overbanked swing due to a sharp turn. What do you think?

Thanks T-Wolf. That one slipped my mind. Actually, I thought it came out in '97, but I know now.

Smartace, it would go faster through some inversions. You don't want to be messing with where your center of gravity is. That would mean reconfiguring the track so the train could travel under it just as if there was track below the train, too. That would reduce the track lenght in loops and corkscrews or whatever. This, in turn, would make them shorter in height, too, making you go through them faster. Going through things faster means more G-forces.

Why can that never happen?
Hey SFA, I hadn't thought of that one before, but I have thought of a floorless suspended. Picture a suspended coaster with B&M inverted or Vekoma SLC style trains. I think trains like that could breathe new life into alot of old suspended coasters, but unfortunately in most cases they probably couldn't be modified in that way because most suspended coasters come so close to grazing things beneath the trains. XLR-8 is a perfect example. There's literally dozens of trees that it flies around which you can easily grab with your hands as you go by, and who knows how close some of those treetops are coming to the bottom of the train, but with your legs dangling beneath you, the view below sure would be sweet! Stand-ups are my least favorite type of coaster, but I'd still like to see all of the possibilities and variations on them that could be done getting built anyway, just to prove that it can be done. I've heard so many people balk about how IMPOSSIBLE a stand-up this or a stand-up that would be, and I just laugh about how skeptical they are, and remind them that before the first traditional stand-ups were built, no one beleived there would ever be a stand-up coaster either. I don't know why so many people who call themselves coaster nuts act like it's so difficult for designers to engineer ANYTHING these days, when every single year the industry surprises us with yet another seemingly impossible feat. I guess you just have to be a true coaster NUT to believe!

Call me stupid...

YOU'RE STUPID!!!

...but I tried that once on Iron Wolf. That is, picking my legs up and sitting for the ride. The second we got to the bottom of the first drop, I realized what a mistake I was making and never, ever did that again.

I came up with that idea one day, but no there isn't one.

No, TrBiggar, in this case 2 + 2 don't equal 4 because you cant stand on air. Using your assumption it would be nothing more than a very uncomfortable inverted coaster. You would have to have some kind of bar or platform for the rider to stand on, thus making it a STAND UP coaster. As far as the extreme g's of a loop, it would be no more extreme than any other looping inverted coaster other than the g's would be felt in your legs and feet instead of your behind.

coaster freaks unite-conquer them all
One thing I don't understand, how can Acrophobia be a STAND-UP drop when there is no floor. In order to stand your legs are supporting your weight and they are not dangling. They have to touch something other than air.

I agree RollrCoastr00, if they did do something similar to this on an inverted coaster, it would be exactly the same as normal inverts but the seats would just be angled forward. Therefore it would still be just a normal invert.
Too many g's would snap your legs in half, Ouch ;)

An inverted standup doesnt mean it has to be a "floorless"... ive seen a 3d model of one that doesnt exist that would explan what I mean, but I don't know where I saw it....
