Surprises, Disappointments, and High Hopes

I wear my glasses' straps to ANY *non-kiddie* park...better to have them secured than to walk around looking like Velma from Scooby Doo all day. ;)

And yes, Robo, there really is "something wrong" with Scandia Screamer....and NOT in *all the right ways*!

Meeting Gonch is like claiming to see Bigfoot or Nessie or a UFO. Even with 'proof' most people won't believe it.

Imagine my surprise when I caught a show on National Geographic debating my existence.

I saw that coming on, but I had just watched the one on whether Lori and Greg are actually the same person and was spent. Besides, it was time for MXC on SpikeTV anyway!

Your set? ;-) Maybe they should offer these people as action figures in Wendy's kids' meals. :-P

Oddly enough, I live 15 minutes from PKD, yet I havent been there this year. I have only been to SFGAm (1st time in 4 years).

Surprises

Ragin Cajun - This little ride absolutely floored me with how fun it is....

Batman - Gets better with age...Seriously, its moved up to my #2 invert (behind Alpengeist).

Viper - #2 Behind Grizzly at PKD. Still packs a good punch (and a smooth one too)

Disappointments

Superman: Ultimate Flight - The only 2 pluses it gets are the pretzel loop (which is awful in comparison to the loop on its Vekoma counterpart in Maryland), and the fact that you could fit a water buffalo in the seat comfortably.

Raging Bull - I'm spoiled by Apollo. Bull just has nothing for me (unless its after dark, then it seems to get decent)

IHOP in front of park - Worst....service.....ever.....

No plans for any more coaster for the time being.

Hi all, new around here. just got back from an ohio trip to PKI (first time) and CP (4th time). Hit 90 coasters ridden!! :-D

1. surprises: a night ride on the back of the red car of gemini (CP). ive been on this ride many times before, but never at night. man we were flyin. (we rode the blue car during the day the next day and it was painful.. which was unusual)

2. disappointments: SOB (PKI). very painful, not from the track itself but from the car's restraints. i am only 5'10" and i was uncomfortable, my dad is over 6' and he couldnt put his feet flat on the floor. we've never had such trouble before. are the different restraints on this ride because of the looping element? fantastic ride otherwise, ill be back if they get new cars.

3. SFGAdv, but im waiting for KK to reopen. i havent ridden a flying coaster before and the one there is the closest to home.

You mean they are not in the Wendys Kids Meals, Tina? Oh boy, I will stop buying them then. No such thing as a picture of Greg and Lori together, it self destructs in 5 seconds, go see.

As for surprises, I couldn't believe how bad that Zamperla Volare is after finally riding the Rye Playland Model.

Disappointments, I never set myself up for them so the Voalre keeps this theme going :)

High hopes go to the September CAC, for a week in Seattle, a few days where I become the Idacoasterho again this year, and a visit to Remlinger Farms to support a kiddie park.

An Old Coaster fart that refuses to grow old, I just wish many of my friends could have as well!

1) PowderKeg was what I expected and so much more. It is such a rush and a coaster that I cannot get enough of. Thank goodness it is only 2hours from here.

2) PKI in short. The staff were rude, both Beast and SOB hurt me very much. IJ:ST was subpar, fun, but not worth the wait. We had a hard time finding things to do there. The coasters anymore are just "so so" and that really bothered me as this used to be one of my favorite parks. Call me jaded I guess.

3) Not sure where else we are going as we are still finalizing plans. However we are thinking about BGW and I am looking forward to DarKastle, but that's just gravy as the real reason I like that park is BBW.

I haven't done much park visiting this season. One visit to the home park, and one to Silver Dollar City. That said...

Most surprising: Powder Keg. This was being touted as a family ride, so I came in with meager expectations. I was blown away! (pardon the pun)

Most Disappointing: Wildfire. Maybe it was just the sheer greatness of Powder Keg right down the midway, but this ride was only good, not great. Of the sitdown B&M coasters, only Kraken disappointed me more.

Most Anticipated: Hades and Avalanche at the Dells (hopefully). I'm not going to ride many coasters this year, but this wooden duo should make up for that if I can fit them in.

Never Has Gravity Been So Uplifting.

FWIW: WildFire doesn't deliver as much to me as it used to either.
Hey at least you meet people i have only ran into one supposed person all year from this site.

Guess i gotta ride hard to achieve a legendary status

Resident Arrow Dynamics Whore

Hey gang!

I haven't posted on this site for over a year. Greetings to all my old buddies.

I have yet to START my summer season, except for SheikRa at BGT.
So I have no great surprise or disappointment yet.

But on Aug 1st we're starting a cross country trip, starting in Anaheim (with KBT & DL) and working our way eastward back to Tampa, stopping in Albuquerque, Oklahoma City, Magic Springs, Memphis, Bessemer, Atlanta and Valdosta!

Gonna be a LOT of fun...thanks for all the great tips already posted and for the ease with which one can plan a trip with this database. *** Edited 7/14/2005 5:48:33 AM UTC by FloridaFlyer***

Nice, a thread I posted brought an old face out of posting hiatus ;) I am honoured, although I'm sure if the thread was started by another dingbat it would've had the same reaction.

LMAO! There ya go!

I have most of the *credits* above. I don't think I have met Bob or Brett though. Would Greg and Lori count as two credits or one? ;-)

Both Italian Job coasters were neither a dissapointment or surprise. They were EXACTLY as I expected them...FUN!

Gonchlings.....LOL! Cute.

1. As for new to me coasters in 2005 - Talon, Nitro, Storm Runner, Wildcat, and Lightning Racer lived up to my expectations and then some. Fantastic rides. As for literally surprising me, that honor goest to Dorney's Steel Force and SFGAdv's Robin Chiller.

I looked at Morgan hypers as Magnum wannabes yet Steel Force surprised me with a great first drop and speed that didn't let up even through the helix at the far end. Only thing was that I was expecting quite a bit of air on the return run but only got a few pops.

Robin Chiller surprised me for some of the intense moments it has, like going through the inline twist backwards.

I must also add Knoebel's Twister and Phoenix. I new they were good rides from all the reports I've read on the net but I didn't expect them to be THAT good. Awesome coasters and awesome park.

2. I won't say it's a total disappointment as I did like it and enjoy my rides on it but Hydra didn't have the "WOW" factor for me. I do think it's a good fit for Dorney.

Italian Job was just an "okay" ride and didn't really live up to the way PKI was advertising it.

3. I'm hoping to hit Kennywood, SFGAm, and maybe SFDL. I've been going to SFGAm every year since 2000 but with gas prices getting higher I'm not sure if the trip will be possible. Got to get my yearly Raging Bull fix and have yet to get my first ride on Deja Vu after trying all these years.

I try to hit Kennywood every year as I love the park. It's a nice getaway when you need a break from the Ohio parks and I haven't been to SFDL since 2002, which I find to be a pleasant park for a Six Flags and also a nice getaway from the Ohio parks.

Those "supposed" people are nothing but trouble.

1a. WILD ONE-SFA: I was very surprised at how thrilling yet smooth this classic woodie was. The double up is great and so is the helix and the double down, just to mention a few high points.

1b. JOKER'S JINX-SFA: When I was looking at it I thought it looked like it was moving kind of slow through the first three inversions....not to mention the breakdown earlier that day when the yellow train didn't make it through the first inversion....but then I got on and off and I was just like "OH!" (think Jessica Simpson in liquid ice commercial lol)

2. SFA's Mind Eraser....It ended up being WORSE than SFDL's IMO.

3.IDK where i'm gonna go....prolly mostly Six Flags with my season pass and all, but maybe PCW again as I haven't been there in a few years.

Surprises [in a good way]-

Spinball Whizzer was my first spinning coaster and it was a lot more fun then I expected. I think I liked it better then Air or Rita.

Haunted Towers or whatever that was called at Blackpool PB. I hadn't even heard of it until I came across that ride. It was really cool. It starts out as a haunted walk through (that is well done) and then you board a ride of some sort (I'm not going to say what, though).

Disappointments-

Both Valhalla and Grand National were closed on my visit to Blackpool. That hurt. :(

High Hopes-

Well, I'm looking forward to ridding Space Mountain at Disneyland again.

I'm also looking forward to Lagoon later this month.
