Superman Ultimate Flight opening soon at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

A 3,000 pound representation of the iconic Superman "S" shield dangled from a giant crane as it was hoisted into place Thursday at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. It was among the finishing touches being applied to the park's Superman Ultimate Flight ride, expected to be ready June 23.

You know I love me some Flashpass, Travis. I will wax poetic about the wonder of Flashpass all day long. However, in most other things mentioned here, I at least get what you're saying. I don't know that a park with a bunch of other rides pays as much attention to capacity in ONE ride, but I agree with you that higher capacity should be considered if not demanded to be consistent with customer expectations. On a ride like this, I don't know exactly how they WOULD do this, but a ride that is unique doesn't necessarily have to be a ride that is low capacity, and it seems a bit of poor planning to me. Does it seem like a conspiracy theory to sell more flash passes? No, but maybe I am giving Six Flags more credit than it deserves. One would think Six Flags would understand the vampire/people paradox and try to avoid it (the more vampires there are the less people there are and the less food there is, just as the more Flashpasses there are, the less regular people there are, the more flashpassers have to wait, the less they'll buy them). Did that make any sense? It is hard for me to type fast on a phone, and therefore I lose my train of thought a lot. But 25 bucks to park in a crappy, pothole filled, unlanscaped lot to WALK to the park where I'm gonna then pay over sixty bucks a person and another sixty bucks a person for flashpass, and then I'm gonna pay even MORE for VIP? That is ridiculous. Will I pay it? At THAT cost? I'm honestly not sure. I agree that entertainment is expensive, but I'm with you on this one: it is too much and really leaves a bad taste in the customer's mouth.

I think one of the things Travis and others doesn't realize is that none of us are saying we want to pay $25 to park, or pay $50 for pay to cut, or pay $100 for a day at Disneyworld, or wait in a 2+ hour line.

No matter how many times it's been explained.

Theme parks aren't a right, they're a luxury. And it IS fair that the more you pay for a luxury, the more luxury you get. That covers all of it. When prices raise or pay to cut is introduced, that's a revenue stream for the company, and allows them to build more rides, thus giving more luxury.

Its fine to have an opinion not to like those things (I think parking should be free, but, then, in my opinion, there should be adult only days at parks, I should be allowed to ride kiddy coasters, and I should never have to wait in line more than 0 minutes), but the reality is what it is. If you don't agree, voice your opinion, have a decent debate, but the incessant complaining about every new thing (and it isn't just Travis) has just gotten old.

And blaming it on a conspiracy is just hokey.

I don't think I ever said that it *WAS* a "conspiracy", rather I am saying that selling more flashpasses *can be* a benefit for the park to offer a popular low-capacity ride like this. I also have said many times that even if this is untrue, it still *can* SEEM that way to *some* customers, and that is just as bad.

I honestly have no access to the inner workings of this aspect of any amusement park, so I really do not know.

I'm not a complainer at all in real life. I do like to find potential problems and figure out solutions for them.

Tekwardo, I am sick of complaining too, but isn't that KIND of what happens here? We take news on the amusement world, bash everything we can, complain about it, analyze it to death, and love it all the while? Lol

Nope. Beating a dead horse is no way to make friends.

Tekwardo, I like the adult only days idea. Of course, then again, we've all seen how adults can act, so maybe not...

But isn't that how we met and became friends? Don't you remember how tasty that horse was?

Not to be disgusting to some of you, but horse meat really isn't that bad. Had the chance to have it on a hunting ranch in Wyoming a few years ago.

I'm pretty sure there's a video on the internet around a guy and horse meat. It doesn't end well.

After 7 pages of discussion, it still looks pretty cool to me.

It's like a Jojo roll in the sky. lol

It does kind of look like fun.

Yes it does, but I'm surprised they went w/ a lapbar for such a slow inversion. Still wanna ride it though.

I'm surprised and VERY happy they made that decision! It will be like this except really really high in the air!

Billy

I drove by the park last night, this ride looks impressive and is a lot bigger looking in person than in the pictures. I cannot wait to ride!

Bolliger/Mabillard for President in '08 NOT Dinn/Summers

This thing has leg restraints too, but other than that, the cars look pretty open and comfortable. I really wanna ride it.

That thing looks awesome. Really, seriously awesome.

Wow. That's amazing.

This is, without a doubt, the most RCT-esque real coaster ever built.
