SUPERMAN: Ride of Steel

What a rush! I took a mini 4 day coaster trip this past weekend and got to take four glorious rides on Superman: Ride of Steel on Sunday. Six Flags America (and New England) has a real winner with this one. Rarely have I seen EVERYONE keep their hands in the air AND Applaud at the end of the ride. This happened on every train! Kudos to Intamin and Six Flags on a spectacular new experience. As is with most hypers, the front row is amazing, but my subsequnt rides in the third, fourth and last car were equally exciting. If you love superspeed, air time and the roaring wind rushing in your face, this is a ride not to miss!
(Millenium Force is next for me!)

As a general note, SFA S:ROS and SFDL's are mirror images of each other but SFNE design is orginal.

By the way, if someone would contribute the new S:ROS rides with COMPLETE stats, I'd appreciate it.

S:ROS at SFA is 200" tall with a 197" 1st drop, a 140' or so 2'nd hill, two helixes, an 80' or so tall 3'rd hill, two helixes and three speed hills at the end. The ride hits a nominal top speed of 70 mph with 75 atainable in hot weather. The frot seat is AMAZING!!! you really fell like your flying.

Six Flags America IS a Six Flags park!
I rode this in SFDL, and i have to say its one of the most amazing rides i've ever on. The first drop took my breath away, the speed was fonominal, felt like 700mph to me espacially just after the first drop when your about 3ft above the lake. The airtime is also v. cool.
To set the record straight superman ros at six
flags new england is the extreme version of the 3
with a 221 foot first drop 13 feet underground
and with its mf type overbanked turns. The other
2 sros coasters are mirrored after one another.
Yup. S:ros still my #1 coaster! :)

Amazing ride, tons of airtime, Fast speeds, Did I mention airtime?, Flying Sensation, Airtime, lets not forget about Airtime...

Front seat, at night, with the mist on, at SFDL.. omg... AMAZING!

Superman: Ride of Steel at Six Flags Darien Lake is better than Millenium Force in my opinion--more airtime, the first drop is over a pond, and there are 2 intense helixes.

I'd like to ride the S: ROS at Six Flags New England.

I agree. I prefer the any of the Supermans to Millennium Force. These coasters are as close to wooden coaster intensity as you can get. I never thought a steel coaster could compare to wood until I rode these monsters. Of course, SFNE's version is steel PERFECTION.
I totally disagree...I like the S:ROS at SFDL, but I wouldn't put it higher than Magnum, and definitely not as good as MF. I was rather unimpressed with S:ROS except for the first drop and the nice airtime hop right at the end, which was awesome. I don't think it's a bad coaster at all...a very good one, but I don't think it has even close to the floating air MF has, and there's no real rush to the coaster, which MF has. Now, the SFNE one looks awesome, but I haven't ridden it, so I can't pass judgement.

Superman is #1. I'd take it over MF, and definitely over Magnum anyday. Personally, I dont care for Magnum. It just seems dull compared to some of the great hypers out there now(Apollo,Superman,Golitah)
Well, personally, I think S:ROS look better than Millennium Force is... Also, I'd easiy take Magnum over MF.
Same here! Superman has little airtime? I don't think so, and it certainly has alot more than MF. MF is great, but other than the first drop, it has nothing on Superman IMO. I guess I can understand not liking the DL version, especially since DL slowed it down(I rode opening day). But SFNE's layout is just perfect. A 78 degree first drop into a pitch black tunnel cannot be topped, not even by MF. Trust me, this thing blows the blue paint off MF! Just my opinion of course. *** This post was edited by Simcoaster on 8/27/2000. ***

I find the SFDL/SFA Supermen to have too much dead time. The helixes are nice, but they're long and have an "Are we there yet?" sort of feel. Not crazy about the long straights either.

SFDL's ride hasn't been "slowed down" in any way that you can notice. People see the trim on the last hop and it's psychological. It makes little to no difference at all. In fact, when they changed to the nylon wheels in the first season, it was actually completing the circuit faster.

I agree with Jeff on the one fact, that there is a little dead time on the SFA/DL Superman's. The only flaw is that long straightaway after the first helix, but that airtime producing hill after the helix makes up for it 100%.
I rode it on opening day, and earlier this year. It's still a great ride, but not the same. Especially when compared to SFNE's. Still my #3 steelie though.

1)Superman SFNE-By leaps and bounds over the others.
2)Goliath-Wasn't expecting much, surprised me though.
3)Superman SFDL-Still GREAT airtime.
4)Millennium Force-Blinding speed, makes up for dead track.
5)Riddler's Revenge-Almost makes me appreciate inversions again(I don't like them). *** This post was edited by Simcoaster on 8/27/2000. ***
