Superman gets panned by Chicago Tribune

After about 40 rides on Superman during media day, I think that the GP will come away very happy. I heard nothing but praise about the ride from guest getting off.

I myself thought it was great, better than X-Flight...very intense and faster than it looks.

I've never been on Supermna, nor have I read the article...

But...

From the excerpts, it seems to me I can realate. This is very much the review I would have given Raging Bull, after the first time I rode it. Statements like "Is that all?" and "To o slow and boring," were exactly what I was thinking after my first spin. However, the plain fact of the matter is, I was expecting too much. I was looking for forceful, which Raging Bull just isn't. Now that I know what to expect from Raging Bull, I enjoy it a heck of a lot more. Really, it's one of my favorite rides in the park. But the thing of it is, it's not a thrilling ride: It's a fun ride. I think this reporter expected a thrilling ride from S:UF, whereas everything I've seen and read about it leads me to believe it's another fun ride.

I hear America screaming...

I wouldn't call the ride slow or boring, but I do think it leaves a little to be desired. The pretzel loop is absolutely amazing but the rest of the ride is merely ok. I still greatly enjoy the ride though.

All who think Mean Streak needs a match taken to it say I.

Well I can finally give feedback when I get back from the park tommarow! I'm so happy. S;UF sure sounds like a blast though.

Having not ridden it yet, I could see why he would think that. The layout is truely uninspired after the pretzel loop. I agree about the ride being faster than it looks however. Superman clocks in at 52 mph, yet Batman and Iron Wolf hold 50 mph and 55 mph repectively. These two rides are arguable the most intense of their kind. I don't care if the ride is a minute long, as long as it packs a punch half as big as Batman and Wolf. After seeing a video of GADv's Superman, and reading the Tribune's review, I'm not expecting as much. This should kill the chance of a major anticipointment. :) Hopefully the ride will deliver- I haven't met a B&M that hasn't. (except Kraken;))

If you are looking for a wild out of control ride, no flyer is ever going to provide that. The riding position is simply incompatible with that kind of ride. I still find them entertaining even if not wildly thrilling.

Oh BullGuy, I thought you were such a cool guy and then you go and beat up on my favorite Beemer, Kraken, which I think is the ONLY Beemer with a mid course brake that DOESNT have a boring and uninspired ending. :) :)

As for Superman, I have not riden any of the Beemer flyers yet, including Superman, however, I have said since the day that Air had premiered that I honestly thought that they would have trouble holding up to the Vekoma's in intensity and would be nothing more than a glorified family coaster. I am sure it will be a fun ride, but I really cannot really see where this ride will be super intense and crazy like the Flying Dutchmans.

The Pretzel loop is very intense, it sure caught me by surprise. After watching video of Superman at SFGAdv, I wasn't expecting much, but got a whole lot more. I can't say enough good things about the pretzel loop lol.

Going from a super intense mega looper like Shockwave to a ultra smooth B&M with only a couple of element, Im surprised I haven't heard more reviews like this.

Charles, dont get me wrong I am extremely happy with the upgrade (I now have another ride at my home park I will go on a regular basis) the comparision I was making was between the Verkoma and Beemer versions of flyers.

Your average park-goer (visits once or twice a year) is going to enjoy this coaster due to the flying sensation and the smoothness. Thats what the park wants and obviously that is what they are delivering.

The addition of this coaster rounds out the collection this park has to offer.

Arena football has arrived in the Windy City. Go "Chicago Rush"

"It's nifty when your car tilts to the facedown position prior to takeoff, and the loop's G forces are OK. The rest of the ride is just plain droll. Top speed is only 52 m.p.h., which is as slow as it seems. The drop is too gradual, easing you into a laconic cruise. Nor is there a sense of flight, because the swoops and dips aren't fast enough."

The ride is slow because it's not even been run 100 times.

And critics are asses.

1 day...

this guy is media which means he probably rode the front car with the video setup. he probably didnt ride in the back where the intensity is.
I agree with swimmerkev on that statment.

In a sense, this negative review could be a blessing in disguise. Appropriately or not, my expectations have been significantly lowered. Hopefully the ride will be a pleasant surprise.

Buy "Stereotype Be" from Kevin Max at Amazon.com
It will help not thinking it is going to be the world's greatest ride. I thought the first ride and came off dissapointed. I rode it the next day and enjoyed it much more because I wasn't expecting much.

Exactly what I'm saying, Kevin. Now all you need to do is look around for that GADv Superman video, watch it, and you're expectations will be lowered yet again! :)

No matter whatthese peeps say the intensity of that loop is completely and totally unmatched. Other then that the layout is pretty unimaginative. SFOG's does have a great sensation of flight, but the others are higher off the ground so I doubt the same sensation is there.

The Vekoma's may have a better layout but SLC's have layouts better then a lot of Beemers. The ride experience still completely and totally sucks.

X-Flight and Batman while a unique experience have little good in them other then the flip at the top and the helix. The pretzel easily blows away the loop and the Inlines are taken so clumsily that they just throw you around with no force. This of course is compounded by the fat that the trains comepletly and utterly suck *rattle rattle*.

The honest truth of the matter is that fliers really are not amazing rides. They are just *different*.

Ah what the hell.....Magnum What?

S:ROS blew me away

It's always the same story...
TERROR SHOCK AWE or hitting the blank nerve with the maximum hammer always gets the attention rendering all else "boring" "slow", etc.

However, with that kind of logic we'll soon rather be killing ourselves instead of having fun and a good time.

TTD is definitely scratching on the limit of what's possible at all... but the fine and fun tones will have to prevail in the end, unless this is all going to end in the big apokalypse.

Why does Six flags say its 60 mph when its really 52 mph?
