summers/dinn

What is it with summers/dinn coasters that make them so rough that people pretty much hate them these days. Psyclone, Mean Streak, Hercules, Raging Wolf Bobs, Texas Giant, etc. Do they have any that aren't this bad?

Summers/Dinn seems to be the Arrow of the wooden coaster world. Both built large popular rides in their day but many of the rides are problem prone and have not aged well. Both firms have, in a way, spawned new companies, CCI is run by Dinn's Daughter and many of Arrow's employees are now with Morgan.
Could it be from poor matainance by the park? Dinn helped with the rebuilding of many older coasters in the 80's Phoenix, Wild One, and Skyliner to name a few and they all ride fine. I rode Summers Cyclone at SFNE and loved it. I can only think it's the parks fault. I could be wrong though.

Timber Wolf isn't too bad. Compared to Texas Giant, it's a walk in the park.

Sooner or later these coasters will die off, if people won't ride them enough. Which I for one, don't want to happen. In the case of Hercules, I can't ride it more than a couple of times. Just recently I was on Excalibur 70 times in one day. I experienced tons of airtime, and no aches, pains, or bruises (except on the sides of my leg where I was holding up the lap bar).

I would like to find a solution for coasters of this type without expensive reprofiling. If the track is ok, or a least tolerable, does anyone out there believe a new type of wheel assembly fitted on to the old trains (maybe with a slightly larger upper wheel) could work? I can't believe the manufacturer ever thought these coasters would be this rough, and maybe it wouldn't take too much to make them "world class" rather than "world trash".
Six Flags has been retracking Texas Giant I don't know if that is to make it smoother or what.

I thought the Texas Giant was one of the Dinn coasters that was still good. Has anyone been on it lately????

Texas Giant was retracked. I am not sure if it was all or just in part. However, I have ridden it before and afterwards. And lemmie tell ya, the difference is night and day. Try it out if you can. I don't ever recall it being smoother than it is right now. Don't get me wrong, it's still rough. But now it's more of a tolerable rough.
Dont forget about Preadator at SFDL.....

They have closed it for retracked like 3 different sets this year, lol

Predator has rolling stock problems. PTC trailered cars. I'd love to get together with a qualified engineer and a park maintenance staff and fix one of those trains.......

They retracked about half the course of the Texas Giant over last year's off season. The ride is MUCH better now. I've always loved it, but now it's just that much better.
Raging Wolf Bobs at SFO has been fixed. I remember riding this two years ago and the thing was the worst coaster I have been on. Not this year. And all they did was add a lot of grease and new padding. Something that the above mentioned lack. Mean Streak in particular is the worst. For a park who is so good with maintenance and safety, would it kill them to put some grease and new padding on the ride?

Yeah, but now RWB is kind of dull compared to it's new neighbor the Villain.
Yes, It's to bad. I hope Cedar Point figures out these things before the same thing happens to Mean Streak.

I thought RWB was the second worst coaster I've ridden only behind Hercules. It was just slow and boring. If the lift was 25-30ft. taller it might just have enough speed to be fun. Now it's just an over grown kiddie coaster to me. Maybe I didn't care for it since we rode it shortly after it opened for the day about 7:30 PM.
