stupid themes

After reading roller coaster themes I decided to start this topic:

What are some stupid themes? I think the theme of Medusa at SFGAdv is strange. The ride is in the Frontier Adventures section of the park, so why is it named after a character from mythology. The station of the ride says Medusa Mine Co on it. SFGAdv tried to make the ride have someting to do with the frontier even though the theme doesn't make sense.

lets see.....Tomb Raider in Rivertown, Adventure Express in Oktoberfest, Batman the ride in nantucket style Yankee Harbour, Superman in New Orleans, Top Gun in Country Crossroads, Goldrusher on the Carolina Boardwalk, Frenzoid pirate ship in County Fair, Avalanche in Congo, Flight of Fear in Congo......most things parks install now days don't have a lot to do with the original theme of the area.......

This place would be be a nightmare for midgets.

das festeheus(sp?) in the timbuktu section of bgt. What does germany have to do with the dark continent.

I hope they kill that iron yuppie. Thinks he's so big. The great homer simspon

SOB in the Action Zone(PKI)

X-Flight in the 50's Midway(SFWOA)

Shipwreck Falls in the 50's Midway(SFWOA)

Superman in the 50's Midway(SFWOA)

How about MF sitting right on Frontier Trail?
Top Gun at PKI was in the jungle section before they rethemed the area to the Action Zone The jungle, just where you'd expect to find an air craft carrier

I still think the Panda Express being located in the "Baja Ridge" section of SFMM, then an italian/pizza joint near the "Samurai Summit" section, and finally, the mexican food joint in the movie backlot section. But that's just me.
I think you really have to consider the source - Six Flags doesn't do a particularly "great" job with theming, and neither does Cedar Point or especially PKI/D.

If you want better theming, go somewhere else.

How about:

The Ninja in the Cotton States section SFOG

The GEORGIACyclone in the BRITISH Section SFOG

Deja Vu in Lickskillet Section SFOG

Once again, leave it to SF to do Ground Breaking theming!
------------------
CF33's Top 3:
1- Incredible Hulk IOA
2- Millenium Force CP
3- Superman Ultimate Flight SFOG

all of SFoG is a theming nightmare
What about Iron Wolf in county fair? Or Superman: The Escape in samurai summet. Six flags does do good ride themeing but horrible Section/land themeing (ie county fair, new orleans etc.). If you want themeing go to Universal IOA best theme park i have ever been to. I have also heard good things about alton towers.

Ever heard of colonization? Most of the European countries raped Africa at one time or another. Anyway, I've heard that they re-named it something Arabian now.

But some "stupid themes" include naming a stand-up rollercoaster after a bug, putting "Two-Face" in southwest territory, and NOT naming a coaster which simulates a launch off an aircraft carrier "Top Gun".

My current favorite home video game!

Titan in the Texas section... then trying to play it off by theming it to a desert (which result in little shade).

Am I really that shy?

Well, I could sorta buy the *name* Titan in the Texas section (though I was partial to the name "Texas Fireball"). Titan is also a name of an American rocket and since NASA 'Mission Control' is in Texas, it works, in a bass-ackwards way.

The desert theme though is just a joke!

Who really cares if the ride doesn't match the theme of the area/midway. I sure don't. I'm sure it would be very hard to try and make every coaster try to fit in exactly right with the area it's located.

MF actually fits that theme. The whole "new millennium" thing gives the feeling of entering a new frontier.

...okay, quick rule of thumb on theming here...

if it requires *explanation* of any kind, by anyone, ever, it's not doing it's job.

the entire point of a themed experience, whether it be a coaster or dark ride or simulator is that you are transported to some other time or place that isn't available to you in the outside world. When you don't immediately *get that*, the theming isn't working.

99.99999% of the planet's coasters are *not* themed. Mantis, Millennium Force, Medusa, Mindbender, and roller coasters that start with something other than M are not themed. They have station architecture, and they have a style, maybe. . . but, to even stretch so far as to try to justify Millennium Force's existence in Frontier Trail, or Superman: Ultimate Flight in Boardwalk or anything like that is practically insulting to the real themed attractions like the Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, or even Space Mountain.

This doesnt go along w/rides not fitting in to the area of the park its in, but I'd have to say the aliens in the cave/tunnel section thing on Roaring Rapids at SFGAm is just plain stupid themeing and quite odd. I just dont get it.
