Stratosphere wants to build another ride a thousand feet up

The Stratosphere in Las Vegas has presented a plan to the city planning commission for a ride that will spin riders out over the edge of the observation deck about a thousand feet above the Las Vegas street.

Let us hope that no bolts break or restraints open on this ride, both for the riders as well as the people below. I also don't know the "spin & puke" value of the ride but that may also be some cause for concern.

"Not all the ideas for thrill rides at the Stratosphere have met with success. Last year, the hotel abandoned its effort to build the world's tallest and fastest roller coaster."

That's intriguing. Wonder what the plans were? Oh well, this new contraption looks pretty interesting, and really, even if the restraints were to loosen a bit, there looks like there is a heck of a lot of centripital force acting on those seats. Should be a good addition.

The failed coaster idea was an Arrow "Fishhook" coaster. Think of Superman:The Escape at SFMM, except in a curved U shape. The coaster track would have been connected to the side of the tower (at about 500-600 feet, if I remember correctly).

Someone might be able to post pictures of a model of the coaster that the Stratsphere had in the casino a couple of years back. I took pictures of it, but a hard drive crash took care of those (among other things).

It was originally going to be a 700' drop, but was changed to a 500', then scrapped.

one has to wonder if the track would really have been that think....

I hope they someday decide to try for this again, pretty soon the Strat is gonna be a bonifide Park!:)
