Stratosphere ride proposal rejected again by city council

A proposed thrill ride that pitted downtown residents against the Stratosphere was rejected unanimously Wednesday by the Las Vegas City Council, setting the stage for a legal battle. The council voted 6-0 to deny a site review plan for the 510-foot, 93 mph "amusement device" after saying the project would be unsightly and incompatible with the surrounding neighborhoods.

I referred to the tower as an eyesore because of its immense size, not because I feel it is ugly or unsightly. I simply meant that the tower definitely dominates the skyline, and if you're one of those people who think the idea of a 500 foot tall coaster is visual pollution, you should take a look at the tower that was approved years ago.

Coaster Gecko, I just found a pic of that snake bridge online. UGH! What were they thinking? What's next, a tower honoring the cockroach?

My city (Columbus, OH) once had a plan to build a bridge with a huge, blue, glass snake on top of it. It got shot down pretty quickly!

If that bridge is the one I saw at http://www.ci.tucson.az.us/images/hottopics/snakebridge.jpg then i think it looks pretty decent.

To be honest, I have no problem with an attraction, but how nice would it look to have a thrill ride crawling up the Sears Tower? Same with this... For Arrow's sake, I'd rather they re-draw plans for an independant Tower, instead of it having to rely on the Stratospere.

It won't have a 500 Ft. drop, but rather this "Amusement device" will be 500 ft. from the ground level.

Den,
It's quite interesting looking to say the least. The thing was nearly knocked off its supports by trucks twice during construction despite posted warning signs. Tucson drivers, you know :)

Nasty Nate 24,

That's the bridge. Quite a few objected to the bridge, saying it was nothing but a major eyesore and a total waste of money. It does serve its purpose, though.
