Stratosphere Considering New Thrill Ride

Posted | Contributed by ThemeParkCritic

The Stratosphere hotel-casino, already home to what many consider to be the most terrifying thrill ride in the city, is considering a new ride that may be every bit as scary.

geesh,if it is going to be an intamin free-fall,its going to have to have A LOT of modifications, especially if the car is going to actually travel up the "Hook" part.
BTW,lets not have a coaster/non-coaster debate
I know they are going down the side, but just how much room do they have on top of the tower?

No Bad Coasters, Just Some Better Than Others.
Oh please, this is nothing different than the First Generation Intamin freefalls... The actual drops on these rides are about half the actual ride height, so don't expect that spectacular a fall even if they DO go ahead and construct this waste of metal.

uhhh ohhh we have a hater!, hey BRANDON RODRIGUEZ,were you one of the people that said a ride like that would be crazy and it would cause alot of deaths?LoL
While I never said anything about death, I was one of the detractors to the Stratosphere rumor. Back then, it was to be a coaster that would drop under the strip blah-blah, and at the time I stated that no such contraption was going to be the Strat's next thrill ride, although I said then and still believe they are definately getting an attraction. As far as this news story goes, it has a far better chance of becoming reality, but I'll go out on a limb and say this still isn't it. The tower will probably get a fish hook it seems,
but I'm still dubious about the 700ft+ and over-the-strip stuff.
Man, it would need the best brakes on Earth! Can anyone say 'magnetic braking'? As found on the Freefall rides - copper braking rails & permanent magnets on the cars.

Like others said, how are the cars gonna get back up? Most likely the same way as Dungeon Drop. Riders could get on at ground level or at the top. Even better would be if you stay in the car & the ride would use LSMs to blast it back to the top. If that ain't powerful enough, add air-compressors! :)

BTW, this WILL NOT be an Intamin ride. It is of Arrow design and has been in the works for years. Once again, people too far away to ride it are bashing it even before they even know exactly what it is. Grow up people... *** This post was edited by DWeaver on 5/7/2001. ***
For those asking how it will get back to the top: Read the article very carefully, it says the car takes an elevator trip to the top, and moves onto the drop track, much like an Intamin 1st gen. freefall. 2 big differences: It's not an Intamin, most likely a new Arrow, and it's BIG!

Three words: No thank you. Power Tower and Pittfall were bad enough.

About the intensity, they could control the speed. But people do skydive don't they, so it shouldn't be too harsh then.

FOF rocks!
I'll be thinkin' twice about riding that one! 740 feet, oh my GOD!
SFMM doesn't count FreeFall as a coaster.
Don't rush out here to Vegas just yet. Nothing much is going on right now as the hotel is still working on expansion. Knowing how Vegas works, especially seeing the construction of our other rides, this ride probably wont start construction until after the expansion.
Hi, you might rember me as Cheeze or CHZ, the non-beliver from Vegas. Well I'd like to apoligize to everyone now... :o)

Badboy, they are just about done with the expansion, but they might have a hard time getting the permits... I mean If I was one of the board members I don't think I'd be shouting out my approval right away. Peace Guys *** This post was edited by Gonzo on 5/7/2001. ***
Heh, How about SFMM freefall? That should have been considered a rollercoaster! That would have gived it more attention. You can barely see it on the map and nobody ever reviews this free fall ride. Mostly everyone dosen't know about it.
Now I have never been on an Imtamin Freefall, and If it is on of those, aren't those fairl rough? Falling 700 ft might be too much, I think It will be something other than one of those. Unless they make some major adjustments to that...

Gonzo it would not be made by Intamin, which has been stated about 20 times already, if it is in the J shape and is dropping 700 or so, the ride is most likely going to be an ARROW, that's right ARROW DESIGNED Fish Hook ride, not made by Intamin. People are just comparing the ride to other Intamin freefalls.

Superman:The Escape was made by Intamin, and it is butter smooth. Arrow's new coaster(s) (Tennessee Tornado) is also from all reports, quite smooth. Besides, how many Intamin built coasters in the last 5 years were considered rough?

Think about it for a minute, there is a reason why the Intamin First Generation Freefalls are called the "First Generation." Come on, people, don't you think that in 20 years companies can improve on a design?

"X" marks the spot in 2001!
Man I seen this one coming! Wonder if a "Thrust-Air" model would be possible? It sounds like a highly modified Intamin First Generation Freefall. Moreover it's going to be some type of prototype that has some sort of new twist on it, if nothing else just the new techology to GO that high!!! That's 70 stories friends!!

God Bless Coasters!!
