"The 750ft roller coaster designed by Arrow Dynamics for the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas, has fallen at the last hurdle. On September 6th, the city ruled that construction of the ride was not to proceed after much of the residential area proved to be against the ride, which would require three enormous structures to support the ride and would create similar noise levels to those apparent living near a busy airport. When plans for this giant ride where unveiled, most people suspected the city of Las Vegas would not have it, and now it is confirmed. After millions of dollars of research and years of planning the ride has been rejected. The owners of the Stratosphere Tower will have one last chance to convince the city that the roller coaster is a good thing, but it looks unlikely that it will pass on the second hearing."

I fell sorry for the owners of the Stratosphere Tower because they put a lot of years and millions of dollars into the reach of the ride.

They can't say that they didn't try, though. Where else in the world would they put this thing? I mean, think about it, you'd need to build a 750 tower somewhere else. The Strat.'s over 1000. What a perfect place. And all the other towers in the world (most, at least) serve a serious purpose.
-Eric, who's hoping that some mercy will be shown and that this ride will pass through the second hearing.
